  • The silence was thick enough to cut with a knife. Each step we took back to the castle crunched on the gravel path, the only sound besides the fading echoes of the party from the taverns. We’d caught the Silver Heart pack members without a hitch, rounding them up as quietly and quickly as possible in their pathetic hideout squeezed between two taverns. It was exhilarating, a victory to savor.
  • I was so grateful that the location in the book matched the actual location in this reality. I half expected Rex to be grateful but after the party at the tavern, he looked like I did nothing. His face was just blank. I couldn’t even read any emotion on his face.
