• The iron door of the dungeon clanged shut, the sound echoing the hollowness that was growing inside me. I walked Ayla to the dining room, each step heavy with the weight of what I had done. What had scared Ayla.
• The memory of the Silver Heart Pack members, begging for mercy, their bloodied and unrecognizable bodies, was still fresh. Ayla… before everything she's nice and cheerful but now she is terrified of me. Alya had been free and cheerful but now she's afraid of me. I tried to convince myself that fear was a tool. A weapon. It would keep her safe, make her understand the dangers that we weren’t meant to be close.
