Chapter 14 Marrying Into The Langford Family 14

  • A few days later, the day of Nathaniel and Veronica's wedding finally arrived.
  • Early morning, the traffic police got to work and made sure the roads and walkways leading to the wedding venue were free of congestion. Everyone knew that Veronica wedded Nathaniel to bring him luck.
  • At the venue, rose petals were scattered from the sky by helicopters. As the balloons and bubbles floated around, accompanied by the melodious wedding march, the wedding without a groom was about to begin.
  • Veronica sat in the dressing room quietly. The makeup artist had already done her job by dolling up the bride. Along with her custom-made ivory white wedding dress, she seemed like a gorgeous fairy with her delicate features, rosy cheeks, plump and kissable lips.
  • Bitterness crept into Veronica's heart as she stared at her own reflection in the mirror. This wasn't the wedding she had dreamed about.
  • “Veronica, congratulations on your wedding today. May today mark the first of the rest of your life, filled with love and fellowship. Hopefully, you'll be a family of three soon,” Hilary offered her wishes sincerely. If one didn't know her true colors, they would've thought she was being genuine.
  • In fact, Hilary was having a hard time concealing her glee at the thought of Veronica marrying a comatose man that day.
  • Her mother lost to me, and now she's losing to my daughter. Ha! A pleased smirk hung on Hilary's lips.
  • “Mom, what are you talking about? Did you forget that my brother-in-law is in the hospital? How will they make babies?” Violet snickered in a mocking tone.
  • “Oh, Veronica, I'm sorry. It was a slip of the tongue,” Hilary replied indifferently.
  • Veronica turned at her shoulder and announced icily, “Hilary, thanks for your well wishes. If there's nothing else—”
  • “Ugh...”
  • “Violet, what's wrong? Do you feel unwell?” Hilary asked hastily, for Violet got nauseous out of nowhere.
  • After she helped Violet to a seat, the latter announced shyly, “Mom, I'm pregnant.”
  • At once, Veronica froze in her chair. She kept telling herself to forget about that cheating b*stard, but she couldn't stop the sudden searing pain in her heart upon hearing the news.
  • “Violet, are you really pregnant? Does Seth know about it?” Hilary declared in excitement and promptly forgot all about insulting Veronica.
  • Violet leaned into her mother's arms happily. “Yes, he knows. He said he'll discuss with his family and come to ask for my hand in marriage soon.”
  • Clearly, Violet was pleased to see the color draining from Veronica's face. After all, she had deliberately announced the news of her pregnancy in front of Veronica to make her miserable.
  • “Greetings, Mrs. Langford. I'm the Langfords' butler, Salvador. Madam Mathilda wants you at the wedding venue now. Please come with me,” the butler, Salvador, showed up and told her respectfully.
  • In response, Veronica rose to her feet and shot Salvador a nod. She couldn't wait to get out of this stifling place.
  • Salvador led Veronica to a private room and knocked on the door before opening it.
  • “Madam Mathilda, Mrs. Langford is here.”
  • Veronica stepped in and saw Mathilda, Richard, and a handsome man drinking tea together.
  • “Hello, Madam Mathilda. Dad.”
  • “Veronica, you're going to marry Nathaniel soon. You should call me Grandma now,” Mathilda uttered affectionately.
