Chapter 13 Marrying Into The Langford Family 13

  • “You want me to take care of that b*tch? No freaking way!” Hilary sneered after cutting the line.
  • “You're the lady of the house, right? There's no need to be at odds with a young girl. Didn't you say she'll be marrying Nathaniel Langford in a few days?” said a plump lady, who seemed to be one of Hilary's friends.
  • The more Hilary thought about it, the more upset she got. She waved her hands and said, “Ladies, I need to go now. Let's meet up another time.”
  • With that, she grabbed her bag and stalked away.
  • Richard stood outside the ward for some time to recollect himself before heading back inside. When he saw Veronica sitting at the edge of the bed hugging her blanket with a dazed look, he scurried toward her.
  • “Veronica, what's wrong? Why aren't you resting?”
  • Seeing Richard's exhausted expression, Veronica felt bad for him. “Dad, I want to go home. I'm fine. Can we leave now?”
  • “Sure, let's go home.”
  • Shortly after, Richard dealt with the discharging procedures and headed home with Veronica.
  • “Mr. Saville, Ms. Veronica, you're back!” Lydia came to welcome them when they arrived home. She held Veronica's hand and expressed her concern, “Ms. Veronica, are you alright? Let me help you upstairs so you can take a hot bath. Later, I'll bring you some food.”
  • Veronica gave her a grateful smile. “Thank you, Lydia.”
  • “Veronica, rest at home. I need to return to the company and deal with some important issues. After that, I'll return to accompany you,” said Richard apologetically. He initially wanted to stay at home, but there were so many urgent matters to deal with in the company.
  • “Go ahead, Dad. I'm fine.”
  • “Alright. Lydia, take good care of her,” Richard reminded before leaving the house.
  • Knock, knock!
  • Veronica had just stepped out of her bath. She was about to get into her bed when someone knocked on her door.
  • It seemed that sometimes, trouble would come knocking no matter how one tried to avoid it.
  • After a brief hesitation, Veronica decided to open the door.
  • “I heard you were admitted to the hospital last night, Veronica. You have no idea how worried I was. I'm glad that you're fine.” It was Violet, who was decked in a pink frock. Her cheeks were flushed, making it obvious that she had just come back home.
  • “Thank you for your concern, Violet. If that's all, I shall get some rest.”
  • Veronica turned and made to close the door, but Violet's coy giggle sounded behind her.
  • “Do you know where I went today?” Violet stuck her chin up smugly.
  • She sauntered toward Veronica and uttered slowly, “I was with Seth since last night.”
  • The mere mention of Seth's name made Veronica's heart constrict painfully. She needed time to forget about that man.
  • “Congratulations, Violet. It must take a lot of courage to use a pre-loved item,” Veronica remarked indifferently. Her nonchalance irked Violet instantly.
  • Clenching her fists, Violet took a deep breath before putting on a pleasant smile.
  • “Oh, you're going to marry into the Langford family soon. I might've met Seth after you, but at least he's alive and well, unlike your...”
  • It occurred to Veronica that her sister was acting like a pathetic clown now.
  • “Violet, my man hadn't been discarded by others, but yours is the one I left behind.”
  • She then slammed the door in Violet's face.
  • “Veronica...” Violet's fists balled up in fury, but there was nothing she could do.
