Chapter 3 Marrying Into The Langford Family 3

  • “Yes, I'm Veronica Saville. Who are you?” Veronica asked warily.
  • “I'm the Langford family's lawyer, Carlos Rivera. On behalf of the Langford family, I would like to discuss the three million debt Saville Group owes to the Langford family. Ms. Saville, are you in a position to make decisions? We can talk now if you are.”
  • Just when Veronica was hesitating, Hilary's high-pitch and mocking voice sounded upstairs. “What's wrong? Are you trying to call the shots for our family since your dad isn't home?”
  • Carlos turned at his shoulder and met Hilary's gaze. He gave her a curt nod and greeted her. “You must be Mrs. Saville, right? I'm the Langford family's lawyer, Carlos Rivera. Could you please ask Mr. Richard Saville to come home so we can talk about the three million debt?”
  • Hilary came down the stairs and flashed a flirtatious smile. “I don't call the shots in the company, but I can ask my husband to come home now.” She pulled her phone out and dialed Richard's number.
  • Meanwhile, Carlos turned to Veronica. “Ms. Saville, you may return to your meal now.”
  • “Sure.” Veronica gave Carlos one last look before going back to the dining table.
  • “Mr. Rivera, have a seat. My husband will be back soon.” Hilary invited him to take a seat and started preparing tea.
  • “Mrs. Saville, how many daughters do you have?” Carlos queried. Hearing his question, Hilary's hands trembled slightly before she responded, “Veronica is my husband and his late wife's daughter. My husband and I gave birth to Violet. Veronica is five years older than Violet, and she's currently studying acting at the Film Academy.”
  • Carlos took one glace at Veronica, who was busy eating her meal. “Both of them must look alike, right?”
  • Hilary chuckled. “Veronica resembles her mom, while Violet resembles me, so no, they don't look alike. Oh, their birthdays are close, though. Veronica's birthday is on July 15, while Violet's birthday is on August 8.”
  • At once, Carlos probed further, “Ms. Veronica's birthday is on July 15?”
  • “Yes, it's a unique date, though. So normally, we would celebrate her birthday earlier,” Hilary revealed as a cold glint flashed across her gaze.
  • “July 15...” Carlos mumbled to himself.
  • “Mr. Rivera, do have some tea!” Hilary offered.
  • “Thank you.”
  • Carlos took a sip of the tea and stood up without warning. “Mrs. Saville, I have to leave now. Please inform Mr. Saville that we'll be back in a few days.”
  • Hilary acknowledged with a nod and sent them off before heading into the house.
  • Veronica's brows were knitted as she came to Hilary. “Hilary, how could you tell Mr. Rivera my birthdate?”
  • Hilary shot her a disdainful look and scoffed, “Why? Do you think you'll get to marry into the Langford family that easily?” Inwardly, she hoped that Veronica would marry that vegetable and lead a doomed life.
  • “It doesn't matter what I think. You still shouldn't reveal my birthdate to a stranger!” Veronica was clearly displeased.
  • Hilary rolled her eyes. “It was just a casual remark. What's wrong? Are you trying to kick up a fuss now?” Veronica nearly snapped back at her, but she recalled how weary Richard was and stopped just in time.
  • Biting her lip lightly, Veronica spun on her heels and stormed upstairs.
  • Hilary stared at Veronica's retreating figure and muttered icily, “You d*mn b*tch... Annoying me with your face that looks exactly like your bewitching mom. I hope you'll lead a horrible life in the Langford family!”
  • “Mom, what are you talking about?” Violet whined as she hopped over to give her mother a hug. She was clad in a gorgeous frock, clearly about to leave for somewhere.
