Chapter 204 Hold On To The Moment

  • Emily sat inside Charles’s study room, the only place in the mansion where she felt she could breathe. It was connected to his bedroom, yet it gave her the illusion of distance, a fragile barrier between herself and the man who unsettled her more than anyone else. She wanted space, she wanted silence, but Charles made it impossible. His persistence haunted her, his actions stirring dangerous hopes she tried desperately to kill.
  • Her thoughts spiraled endlessly. Charles was difficult to understand, impossible to crack. His gestures sometimes made her believe he was protecting her, that he cared, but his words always reminded her of the truth. Everything he did was for his brother, Warren. Emily told herself again and again that she was out of her league. Charles would always choose his family. She was nothing to his world, tolerated only because of Warren.
  • She glanced at the wall clock. It was late, the mansion wrapped in silence, but she had no intention of leaving the study. The exhaustion of the day weighed heavily on her, and before long, she sank into the couch, her body surrendering to sleep.
