Chapter 6 – Old Wounds
- After Chloe left, Serena did not say anything. She just picked up her briefcase and left for work. I stayed in the penthouse alone, the silence filling the big rooms. Chloe's words stayed in my head. They brought back all the old memories from senior year.
- I remembered the day Serena and her friends poured a whole bottle of milk into my schoolbag, ruining all my textbooks. I remembered sitting on the bathroom floor, crying while trying to dry my homework under the hand dryer. Serena had stood by the door, watching me with a cold expression. She had never apologized. She had just walked away.
- Now, she was protecting me from Chloe. It did not make sense. Was it just because she wanted to protect her investment? If I got upset and ran away, her contract would fail. That had to be the reason.
