Chapter 4 – Our First Public Kiss

  • The next morning, three people arrived at the penthouse carrying large racks of dresses. They spent hours trying different outfits on me. Serena sat on the sofa in the living room, reading documents on her tablet. Every time I stepped out in a new dress, she would look up, nod or shake her head, and go back to her reading.
  • Eventually, she chose a simple, dark blue gown. It fit me perfectly but felt strange. I had never worn something so expensive. After the stylists left, I spent the rest of the day pacing around my room, feeling sick to my stomach. I was terrified of making a mistake and ruining Serena's business, which would mean losing the money I needed.
  • At seven o'clock, the driver picked us up. Serena looked incredibly handsome in a tailored black suit. We did not speak during the drive. When the car stopped in front of the grand hotel, I could see hundreds of flashing lights outside. There were reporters standing behind metal barriers, shouting names.
