Chapter 16 I Can Apologize

  • Madam Ling kept Li Xinyu behind to chit chat for a while. When they were done, she removed a bracelet from her wrist, gave it to Li Xinyu, before excusing them to go back to their bedroom.
  • Ling Yao walked ahead, while Li Xinyu followed suit looking perturbed.
  • “Am I supposed to have this?” Li Xinyu clearly noticed, that when Madam Ling gifted the bracelet to her, both the Ling father and son’s expressions changed.
  • “If she gave it to you, you should just keep it,” he replied a little irritably.
  • “Oh, okay,” she lowered her head to examine the black jade bracelet on her wrist, which was of excellent quality, presenting a dark black shade and well lubricated sheen. She raised it overhead to study it. When light penetrated, it became translucent, while its black pigmentation now bore a green tint, leaving its hue pure and unblemished.
  • Doubtlessly, this bracelet was priceless.
  • Her heart was faintly moved, as she knew that Madam Ling was genuinely kind to her.
  • Ling Yao pushed open the door and entered the room.
  • Immediately, Li Xinyu remembered what happened the other night, came to a standstill and stopped outside the door.
  • He turned his head to peer at her. In a glance, he saw right through her thoughts, he seemed to be laughing when he said, “You’ve already been here the other night, is there any reason to be afraid today?”
  • “That’s different,” Li Xinyu did not succumb to his enticement today. Keeping a level mind, she said, “I think we need to have a conversation.”
  • Their relationship was too strange now and Ling Yao was not particularly accommodating by nature.
  • If he bore such an optimistic attitude 3 years ago, she wouldn’t have to go abroad to stay away from him.
  • “If there’s anything to talk about, you can come in to talk about it,” Ling Yao impatiently dragged her, tossed her into the room and kicked the door shut with his foot.
  • After expending a lot energy, she finally slid the bracelet off her wrist and cautiously placed it aside, “I know this bracelet’s background isn’t that simple, I usually move around heedlessly, it would be bad if I accidentally broke it, so you should hang onto it.”
  • From atop, he gazed down upon her, in a compelling manner, “That’s what you wanted to discuss?”
  • Li Xinyu paused and gradually continued, “About the divorce, I think…”
  • This time, he interrupted her, “Your thoughts are yours alone, what do they have to do with me?”
  • “This marriage is ours, but if neither of us have the will to carry on, then we should give each other a break and move on as quickly as we can. Letting it consume us like this will only hurt us both,” said she. In fact, she knew that his unexpected change of mind about the divorce was because he was resentful.
  • He was indignant about losing control the other night and bitter that he had not recognized her.
  • “I am willing to apologize,” her eyes lit up.
  • “Apologize? For what happened 3 years ago, or what’s going to happen in the next 3 years?” He sauntered up before her, used his long fingers to raise her chin, and then in a deep tone, laughed condescendingly, “Li Xinyu, I fell for the same ruse you pulled twice, but now I don’t feel like climbing out for the time being, what do you think I should do?”
  • What does he mean by falling for the same ploy two times and not wanting to get out of it?
  • Li Xinyu’s heart pounded rapidly, believing that there was something in between his lines, so powerlessly she said, “3 years ago, I got the short end of the stick, 3 years later I’m still on the losing end, right?”
  • The fingers that gripped her chin unexpectedly moved and his fingertips now pressed against her lips, “But you’ve been hogging the title of Mrs Ling, Li Xinyu.”
  • He had sealed her lips, so when she spoke, it sounded muffled, “That’s why I’m saying this, I’m willing to get a divorce and return your freedom to you.”
  • Abruptly he bent and came close to her ear, “But why should I grant you this wish?”
  • His hot breath swirled around her ear. She sensed something was amiss, but it was too late to put up any resistance.
  • With a wave of his large hand, Ling Yao ripped open her shirt.
  • Porcelain white skin was exposed right before his eyes, reminding him again of that night and how she blossomed under his body. He smiled, and went close to the skin that took so long to recover to its pristine state, only to corrupt her with his evil marks, planting them on her one after another.
