Chapter 12 Plenty of Chances in the Future

  • Ling Yao suddenly reached his hand out in her direction.
  • Li Xinyu was stunned and subconsciously stepped back.
  • Madam Li, gave her shove, placing her right in front Ling Yao and persuaded her softly, “What’s wrong with you? Your husband is here, Xinyu.”
  • She blinked her eyes somewhat vacuously.
  • Ling Yao laughed softly and this baffled her even further. Perhaps the purpose of his visit, was so that he could personally witness her signing of the divorce agreement?
  • She pressed her lips, realizing what needed to be done, and with a subdued voice she said, “I’ve already signed it.”
  • He appeared as if he did not hear her. Under Li Qitian’s arrangement, everyone had gone over to the round table to sit down for dinner.
  • But she knew that he heard what she just said.
  • Because she could visibly see, under that façade of calmness, he gave her a sly smile.
  • Li Xinyu was forced to sit next to Ling Yao, as they were husband and wife.
  • “I’m not trying get you off your guard, in order to entrap you later, or resorting to any ploy. You have my assurance, I will definitely be cooperative with the divorce,” worried about any misunderstanding, she quickly guaranteed, speaking in a tone that made only them privy to the conversation.
  • He gave her a thoughtful look, and for reasons unknown, flashed her a smile.
  • Li Xinyu felt heart tighten. Instinctively, she felt that there was something ominous about that smile and no good would come of it.
  • It was exactly dinner time when they sat down. Shortly afterwards, dishes rich in color, fragrance and taste, were set on the table one after another. Li Qitian instructed the help to get the kitchen to prepare more dishes, since it was Ling Yao’s first visit to the Li residence.
  • Li Qitian always felt respectful and fearful of his son-in-law, Ling Yao. Despite being the senior of the two, he kept behaving far more deferentially to him. All through the meal, Li Qitian was pandering to Ling Yao nonstop.
  • Li Xinyu hated to interrupt them while they were “getting along wonderfully” and went on to eat her rice in small mouthfuls.
  • A piece of deboned fish appeared in her bowl, and she said, “Thank you.” Then she proceeded to devour it with her rice.
  • After swallowing her food, something promptly occurred to her and she looked up abruptly only to see Ling Yao’s deep and profound eyes gazing upon her.
  • Now she felt as though all the fish she ate were, in fact, fishbones and they were obstructing her heart.
  • Li Yazhi looked thrilled and her cheeks blushed as she said, “I finally got to see you, brother-in-law,”
  • It has been 3 years, this brother-in-law only ever existed as a topic of conversations and subject of the news in all media. This is the first time seeing him in the flesh and he is far more charismatic in person than when seen in the news!
  • Ling Yao faintly smiled at her, and stretched his arm over to lean his hand on Li Xinyu’s backrest, and said, “There’ll be more chances in the future.”
  • Resting his hand on Li Xinyu’s backrest like that, he looked like he was holding her intimately by her shoulders.
  • “Will you come often with my big sister in the future?” asked Li Yazhi, whose eyes were blooming little pink hearts all over.
  • “Of course, if that’s what she wants,” replied Ling Yao, with a light and airy quality in his voice, every bit playing the part of a gentle and considerate spouse.
  • But his words, ironically, made Li Xinyu’s hand stiffen. What on earth does he mean by this?
  • Li Xinyu’s brilliant eyes stared unblinkingly at him, trying to see if anything could be deciphered from his face, but his performance was so composed, she could not find a clue and could make nothing of it.
  • Ling Yao wants a divorce as well, so he delivered the divorce papers to me, but out of the blue, he makes this appearance and starts talking in this manner… Is he trying to back out of this?
  • Li Xinyu decided it would be wiser to secret the documents away and cautiously squirrelled them back into her purse.
  • Regardless of what he was trying to pull, she would see this to its end. In any case, she had already signed the divorce agreement.
  • “Sister, will you two come back often?”
  • Unexpectedly, he held her hand, pulled it before him and started playing with it. A slim hand started stroking her fine and slender fingers, one after another, until he was done with all five. Then maliciously he tossed this ball into her court, “Why didn’t you ask me to come along?”
