- I knocked on his bedroom door, hoping he would open it. I was here to convince Brant not to leave. I knew I should be happy—he was heartbroken, packing up, walking away from the only home he’d ever known. That’s what I always wanted. He had been my number one enemy in the world. I came here to hurt him, to make him pay for his sins.
- But deep down, I knew I wasn’t here just because of Dani’s visit earlier. She had come to my room, pleading with me to stop him from leaving. She truly believed that if I asked, he would listen—he’d stay. As if she didn’t know how stubborn and difficult Brant could be.
- I had knocked for—I didn’t even know how long or how many times, too lost in my thoughts to count—when the door finally opened. Brant stepped out, his expression guarded. He opened his mouth to speak, but I pushed past him and walked in.
