• I clenched and unclenched my hands on my lap over and over again, apprehensively. My mind couldn’t stay settled for one second enough for me to pinpoint one reason for my apprehensiveness. The soft music playing in the background should be soothing, but it did nothing to calm my frayed nerves.
• All night, I have managed to keep a straight face, smiling pleasantly at sour expressions and pretending I didn’t notice them or that it didn’t bother me. I had no idea how long I could keep up with that. More than anything, I wanted to escape the vicious stares of all these people, especially Nina Vasques, who sat a couple of feet across from me, glaring at me like I was the most worthless piece of art she had ever come across.
