- I was surprised and pleased that he didn’t ask about her condition. He held the door for me, and we walked to his car. As I climbed into the passenger seat and he shut the door, I wondered what I’d have done if he hadn’t shown up. Taking one of Kieran’s cars without his consent was out of the question, and finding my way from the house would have been difficult.
- Silently, I thanked the universe for bringing Nate along for whatever reason. Unlike Kieran, Nate was a gentleman. He had complimented me, held the door for me, and spoken gently when he asked me to put my seatbelt on. I recalled the trip from the hotel to the house after the wedding. How it was almost like Kieran snapped at me with every word he uttered. He couldn’t even be bothered about the fact that we just got married to act in a certain way to his new bride.
