Chapter 7 Is He Troubling You?

  • At the mention of marriage, she thought of the one between her and Shao Yunchen. Three years had passed, but nothing changed between them. They were just a pair of strangers being forced to live under the same roof due to the shackles of one certificate and a contract.
  • How did I manage to get through three years with him? He’s a calm, calculating man who wants to split everything.
  • Lu Yao suddenly paled from the stab of pain coming from her belly, her legs almost turning into jelly.
  • Xiang Dongnan quickly held her. “Are you feeling unwell?” he asked in concern when he noticed her pale look. “Do you need me to send you to the hospital?”
  • “I’m fine.” As she waved him away, Lu Yao struggled to stand up. “I envy you, actually.” She looked bitter. “You can get a divorce the moment you feel that you’re incompatible.”
  • “The marriage between you and Shao Yunchen…” Xiang Dongnan hadn’t come back for years, but through the constant correspondence with Mr. Lu, he knew Lu Yao was married to Shao Yunchen, someone who came from a not-so-influential family. “Is he troubling you?”
  • Lu Yao shook her head.
  • She would rather have Shao Yunchen troubling or mocking her, but he had to be distant, only coming back once a week. ‘Home’ meant nothing to him.
  • Lu Yao wanted to say something, but when she looked up, she saw a group of people coming from ahead.
  • The men in suits looked like elites in the business world. They were led by a man in grey suit whose short, black hair was combed back tidily, radiating an elegant aura that couldn’t be ignored.
  • Lu Yao noticed that the gorgeous lady beside him was wearing a dress of the same color as the leading man. The cool-colored attire suited her well, showing off her fair skin and smile in a better way.
  • Lu Yao stood rooted in place, for her hunch told her that the woman beside Shao Yunchen must have been the one who picked up Shao Yuzhen’s phone last time.
  • Shao Yunchen who came over saw Lu Yao too, frowning when he saw a man standing beside her. When he was going to say something, the woman beside him had already opened the room’s door. “Please go inside, President Shao,” she said gently.
  • As I’ve expected, that’s the woman who took the call last time, she thought. She sounds better than she did on the phone. Lu Yao gripped her hem tightly, keeping quiet as Shao Yunchen went past her with his group.
  • When she was about to leave gracefully, her belly protested by stabbing her with agony, making her fall forward.
  • “Lu Yao?”
  • Xiang Dongnan’s panicked shout was heard by Shao Yunchen when he was about to enter the room. When he took a look, he noticed Lu Yao was lying on the rug, looking pale. He pushed away everyone beside him before striding to where Lu Yao was.
  • “Let go.” After shoving Xiang Dongnan away, Shao Yunchen picked up Lu Yao and went outside the hotel with a grave look on his face.
  • Xiang Dongnan could guess who he was, so he didn’t go after them, but something glinted in his eyes.
  • After sending Lu Yao to the hospital’s ER, he called Fu Xuezi—who was in charge of tonight’s negotiation—to cancel it.
  • The doctor came out of the ER’s door after Shao Yunchen had waited for ten minutes or so. “You’re her husband?” The doctor pulled down his mask before questioning him.
  • “Shao Yunchen nodded. “Yes, I am.”
  • “You should take more care of her. Don’t allow her to smoke or drink anymore,” the doctor chided. “She’s already down with period problems. If she doesn’t adjust her sleeping schedule and take care of herself, she might even end up infertile. I’ve given her some prescription. Remember to have her take it on time.”
  • “Thank you, doctor.”
  • Even after the doctor was gone, Shao Yunchen massaged his forehead as he thought of what the doctor had said.
  • This marriage with Lu Yao was done under the pressure from his family, so he was averse toward it. Before they were married, he wanted her to sign a contract that would give them the freedom to do what they wanted, cutting off the possibility of any complications when the divorce eventually arrived.
  • But Shao Yunchen felt disturbed when he saw Lu Yao treating herself badly, even ending up with a slew of diseases. When all was said and done, she was still a young girl in her twenties, so he had to take care of her.
  • Shao Yunchen went down to the hospital’s cafeteria to get a bowl of porridge for her.
  • When he came back to the ward, he saw that Lu Yao was struggling to sit up. Obviously she had woken up during the time he was in the cafeteria.
  • “Don’t move.” Shao Yunchen placed the porridge on a table before placing a pillow behind her so she could lean on it comfortably. “Didn’t you say you would only smoke for fun? Why did you get addicted to it?”
  • He’s still here?
