Chapter 13 Let It Go, for Both of Us

  • Just by looking at Shao Yunchen’s frown was an answer clear enough for Lu Yao. There was no need for him to speak. “Don’t think about what you should say.” She smiled. “I know your answer, so can we just let it go? For the both of us?”
  • Lu Yao escaped his grip before she bent down to pick up her things. Her eyes wet with tears.
  • She was hoping to see panic or longing in the man’s eyes, which might make her falter and cancel the divorce if he said something about it. But when she noticed how calm he was, or how there was nothing in his eyes, there was nothing worth pursuing anymore.
  • She didn’t even have the courage to ask about the relationship between him and Fu Xuezi.
  • Lu Yao picked up her stuff before entering the apartment complex calmly, while Shao Yunchen panicked. He quickly went forward without thinking, stopping her from going in.
  • Lu Yao's occasional tantrums over the three years of their marriage were acceptable for him, but he was upset and refused to believe it when she mentioned a divorce.
  • “Is it because of your father’s case?” Shao Yunchen asked. “I already have someone on it…”
  • “I can settle this myself! I don’t need your help!” Lu Yao interrupted him. “Our divorce has nothing to do with this either.”
  • “How are you going to settle this? Two million isn’t a paltry sum.” Shao Yunchen shrewdly thought something was off.
  • Lu Yao pursed her lips, but she answered nothing.
  • As he inched closer to her, Shao Yunchen said coolly, “Lu Yao, you insisted on this marriage, and you got what you wanted. But do you think you can get a divorce with just the snap of a finger? What do you think I am? A luxury item you can use once and throw away?”
  • “That’s not what I meant…” Lu Yao was going to explain, but her face was held by Shao Yunchen before he kissed her.
  • This was a fiercer kiss than the one they had when they were rocking the bed. It was as if Shao Yunchen was trying to punish her.
  • At the same time Lu Yao felt flabbergasted, her body felt hot. This was the first time Shao Yunchen had kissed her outside of sex.
  • It was a deep kiss, only stopping when his phone rang nonstop. He took the call impatiently, but he grabbed Lu Yao’s hand while he took the call, worried she might go upstairs and leave him.
  • “What’s the problem? Singapore? Okay, understood. Book a flight for me. I’ll fly there tomorrow morning.” Shao Yunchen had always been someone who cut to the chase, finishing the call in three minutes.
  • Shao Yunchen looked helpless as he looked at Lu Yao. “I need to go to Singapore for a week. I have some business there, so let’s talk about this divorce when I get back.”
  • Lu Yao had no expression on her face. “It’s just a divorce. I’ve signed the papers. All it needs now is your signature.”
  • Shao Yunchen ripped the agreement apart before her. “You can’t decide to end the marriage on your own.” He unbelievably toned down to her. “I need to consider this too. Don’t throw your tantrum, Lu Yao.”
  • Lu Yao laughed angrily. You need to consider? What a joke. I’m the one who’s married to you, so the one who had three years of youth wasted is me, not you!
  • Lu Yao wanted to stand her ground, but Shao Yunchen patted her head before taking her shopping bags. “It’s been a while since I saw mom. I’ll go with you to visit her.” It didn’t take much for Lu Yao to relent, before bringing him upstairs quietly.
  • Mrs. Lu was surprised to see Shao Yunchen here, but she still nodded at Shao Yunchen when he greeted her before she went back to watching her drama.
  • Shao Yunchen went to the kitchen with Lu Yao to prepare the ingredients for dinner. Lu Yao would be the cook, while Shao Yunchen would help her. They shared scarce conversation, just like how they were behaving in their own home, with nobody mentioning the divorce again.
  • Lu Yao rented a one bedroom unit for her mother. Her moving into Mrs. Lu’s home was making it cramped enough, so Shao Yunchen couldn’t stay here. Even if he wanted to, she didn’t plan to keep him here.
  • After dinner, Shao Yunchen watched some TV with Lu Yao before leaving when he noticed that it was getting late. “Send me off, Yao.”
  • “Walk yourself. You can do that.” Lu Yao was reluctant to get up from the sofa, but when she didn’t get up, Shao Yunchen refused to leave. It wasn’t until her mother began coughing to remind her did Lu Yao send him off reluctantly.
  • Worried Lu Yao might mention the divorce again, he reminded her when they got downstairs, “Let’s talk about the divorce after I get back from work.”
