Chapter 18 Mom and I Are Waiting for You

  • “You shouldn’t apologize to me; you should apologize to mom,” Lu Yao told him. “She worried so much, she has insomnia now. And now she has to wait for you for years.”
  • “I’m sorry. It’s my fault.” Mr. Lu was disgraced.
  • “Mr. Song said you might get out earlier for good behavior.”
  • Mr. Lu nodded tearfully as they chatted. “How’s it going between you and Shao Yunchen?” he asked.
  • “Not that good, really. We’re going through a divorce.” Lu Yao didn’t hide it.
  • Mr. Lu was taken aback for a moment before he said guiltily, “It’s my fault. You wouldn’t have been unhappy now if it wasn’t for me forcing him to marry you.”
  • Lu Yao shook her head, for she knew her father loved her.
  • The moment she said she liked Shao Yunchen back then, Mr. Lu went to the Shao residence to talk with them. Coincidentally, they had something they needed his help with, so that was how this marriage came to be. Her father gave her anything she wanted precisely because he loved her.
  • She had to thank her father for giving her a chance to know that Shao Yunchen didn’t love her. Without this loveless marriage, she wouldn’t have given up her fantasy, nor would her divorce be so calm.
  • When the visitation time was up, the cop told her to leave, and she said goodbye to her father reluctantly.
  • She hailed a ride back to the city after she left the prison. Lu Yao felt her chest getting stuffy due to a lack of rest. Her abdomen started having stabs of pain, making her black out slowly. When she woke up again, she saw that she was already in the hospital.
  • “You should rest now that you’re pregnant, miss,” the nurse chided Lu Yao when she noticed the latter had woken up. “You’re still early in your pregnancy, so the fetus isn’t stable yet. You’ll suffer a miscarriage if you don’t rest.
  • From what the nurse had told her Lu Yao found out that after she fainted in the taxi, the driver sent her to this hospital.
  • Lu Yao said nothing as she let the nurse check her up, only wearing her shoes and leaving the ward after the nurse said she could go.
  • The hospital’s corridor was filled with people from all walks of life. Everyone had a different look; some happy, while some looked gloomy.
  • A couple went past her with their baby in their arms; the husband was playing with the adorable infant who was wrapped in a cloth. “Look, he has your lips, honey.” A blissful smile carved itself on his face.
  • The wife slapped his arm in annoyance. “Are you saying I have a big mouth?”
  • “I was not! You’re the prettiest woman in the world, honey!”
  • Lu Yao felt sad as she looked at the leaving couple, touching her belly reflexively, knowing that there was a life growing in there. Perhaps someday, it would also look at her with big, sparkling eyes, but that wasn’t possible now.
  • Leaning on the wall, she slowly crouched down. “I’m sorry… I’m so, so sorry…” She bawled.
  • When Lu Yao got back to Dongnan’s house, she saw that he was already back, and was playing with his daughter. “Sorry. The talk went on a couple of days longer than I thought.” He felt embarrassed for having Lu Yao taking care of her daughter for so long, but then he noticed she was not looking well. “What is it?” he asked. “You’re pale.”
  • Lu Yao shook her head, forcing a smile at him. “Can you help me for a bit, Dongnan?”
  • Shao Yunchen was still frustrated over his search for Lu Yao, for he found out that he knew next to nothing about her when he started looking for her. He didn’t know her friends, and he couldn't find her in her mother’s house or her company. Left with no choice, he drove aimlessly to look for her.
  • He didn’t know the reason he was feeling so flustered. What he did know was that even if it was a divorce, he should have been the one to propose it, not her. Now that she did it, she made him look like a heartless man who abused her.
  • When Shao Yunchen was considering getting a hacker to help him install a tracking device in Lu Yao’s phone, someone called him. He picked it up. Although it was an unfamiliar number, he had a feeling that Lu Yao was calling her. “Lu Yao?” He quickly took the call.
  • “It’s me,” Lu Yao confirmed. “Come over to my mom’s for dinner tonight, Shao Yunchen,” she said calmly.
  • “I’ll be right there.”
  • Shao Yunchen breathed a sigh of relief, for if Lu Yao called him, that meant he could still retain her. But when he got to Mrs. Lu’s home, he was surprised that the one who opened the door was a tall man instead of Mrs. Lu or Lu Yao.
