Chapter 16 The Fault Is Not on Her

  • Fu Xuezi looked at the diamond ring she was wearing, smiling smugly as she did. “Yunchen isn’t back yet,” she said, “so why don’t I take you around for a stroll?”
  • “I saw him here when I came up, but I don’t think there’s a need to see him.
  • Lu Yao felt her sadness being lifted after seeing through everything, even if only a bit. She took off that scalding ring she was wearing before placing it in Fu Xuezi’s hand. “He bought this for me but I don’t think I need to keep this anymore. Give him this for me.”
  • When she sent Lu Yao off, Fu Xuezi’s face darkened.
  • She took off the ring she was wearing before putting it back into the ring box, while putting Lu Yao’s beside it.
  • When the delivery parcel first arrived, she was the one who signed it. Noticing that the box contained a Tiffany & Co.’s ring, she wanted to try it on, but Lu Yao came at that moment.
  • She only chose to remain silent, never saying if Shao Yunchen was giving her the ring. It was Lu Yao who chose to misunderstand them, so she couldn’t be blamed for saying nothing.
  • Lu Yao left Hetai Building with Tiantian, calling President Ji after she exited the building. “You should get someone else here, President Ji. I’m not suited for negotiations, and you don’t have to give me the money.”
  • She hung up before President Ji could say anything.
  • It hadn’t been ten minutes from the moment she entered Hetai Building until her exit, but Lu Yao thought an eternity had passed. Tiantian hugged Lu Yao when she noticed her sadness, before touching the corner of Lu Yao’s eyes with her soft, cuddly hand.
  • “I’m fine.” Lu Yao smiled, but sounded a little choked up. “You must be starving. Let’s go for lunch.”
  • Tiantian nodded.
  • Lu Yao brought Tiantian to Pizza Hut. She knew Tiantian was a picky eater, but she seemed to take restaurants like these well; plus, she wasn’t choosy about pizzas and spaghetti.
  • The restaurant was filled with customers at lunchtime, with most of them waiting for a spot as they spent their time in the lounge, while some were making a ruckus. Lu Yao didn’t feel like eating when their food was served, so Tiantian tried to feed her a slice of pizza.
  • Lu Yao forced a smile, but couldn’t muster the strength to take a bite even when the pizza was right in front of her mouth. The faint scent of seafood disgusted her, prompting her to cover her mouth as she ran to the bathroom.
  • She had nothing for breakfast, so she only barfed up her stomach acid.
  • Lu Yao knew her body well, so when she guessed what the cause of this abnormal nausea was, she paled. After Tiantian was done eating, Lu Yao took her along to the hospital as she got her number in line and did the pregnancy test.
  • The double lines on the test kit blinded her, making her lose her balance, almost falling to the ground. The nurse smiled as she looked at Tiantian. “Your daughter’s a big girl now. It’s the perfect time for a second child,” she said. “You have to watch out from now on. Try not wearing any heels. It’s better for the baby.”
  • “Thank you.”
  • Lu Yao plopped down on the long bench, falling into a long trance. Shao Yunchen has been careful during sex because he doesn’t want any kids. Why do I have to get pregnant now? Is this a joke?
  • She wanted a child of her own, but now that she was going through a divorce with Shao Yunchen, she couldn’t allow this child to be born without a father by its side.
  • Shao Yunchen called her. “Where are you? I’ll pick you up.”
  • Lu Yao’s tears fell when she heard his voice. “Shao Yunchen!” she growled, “I want a divorce! I want nothing but a divorce! If you object to it, then let’s meet in court!” After she hung up, Lu Yao blocked his number and WeChat account.
  • All Shao Yunchen does is take advantage of my love for him!
  • Lu Yao felt a lot better after crying. She wiped her tears before taking Tiantian to the airport to get two flight tickets, returning to Nancheng County at seven thirty that evening.
  • As Xiang Dongnan was not back yet, Lu Yao took Tiantian back to her mother’s home. She told her mother that Tiantian was Xiang Dongnan’s daughter, as well as the fact that the 2.5 million was borrowed from Xiang Dongnan.
  • Mrs. Lu sighed after listening to her daughter’s explanation about Tiantian’s story. “Dongnan had it hard. I can take care of Tiantian for him if he’s busy. We did borrow a lot of money from him after all."
  • “It’s fine. I do teach Tiantian some new words occasionally.” After a short chat with her mother, Lu Yao cut into the meat of the topic. “Mom, I want to get a divorce with Shao Yunchen. Sorry for having to see me being so downtrodden. It’s embarrassing, I know.”
  • She didn’t tell her mother about her pregnancy, for she wasn’t planning to keep this child either.
