Chapter 21

  • The next morning, Wilder awoke in his own bed, pain-free and with his stomach growling. A good night’s sleep, without pain, and with good food in him, did wonders. Better yet, he wasn’t dreaming as he realized he wasn’t alone.
  • Tiana was facing him, her hair a wild mess from sleep, and her cheeks pink. They were both still dressed, but Tiana had one arm tucked between them, her hand on his chest, while the other draped over his side. He laid there for a moment, trying to recall their conversation from the previous night, and wasn’t sure they actually talked.
  • As far as Wilder could remember, Tiana made him eat a bowl of soup, then helped him to his bed and whispered sweet things to him, trying to comfort him as he fell asleep.
