Chapter 14: Mateo's Story

• Rain poured heavily over Milan, and lightning flashes were loud enough to wake Miracle from her sleep. She blinked several times, then noticed the open window. She got out of bed and stepped toward it, only to fall silent when she saw that Mateo’s parking space was still empty, which meant he was still out.
• Miracle quickly pushed the thought aside and lay back down, but a sudden thirst made her reach for the glass on the table. She muttered under her breath when she saw the pitcher was empty. With no other choice, she decided to fetch water from the kitchen herself, even though she could have asked the maid for help.
• Just as Miracle was about to head to the kitchen, her steps froze. A door stood slightly ajar, and her brow furrowed at the sight. Her mind raced as she suddenly remembered the room she had been forbidden to enter. Doubt flickered across her face, but curiosity won over.
