Chapter 47 Lifting the Curse

  • Sunflower was just an ordinary plant. But it had picky growing conditions. It only clung to sheer rock faces, and it had to bask in constant sunlight. It had one more quirk: it soaked up heat from the sun and stored it in its buds. It didn’t live long, so it had to be picked and dried fast—no wonder it was rare.
  • Southbro stared for a long time, trying to remember if he’d ever seen the thing. He couldn’t be sure. But there was one guy who might know, so he sent his men to fetch an old-timer.
  • The old man, Uncle He, was Southbro’s trusted fixer. He was worldly and specialized in buying oddities off the black market, stockpiling them until someone needed them and would pay top dollar.
