Chapter 6 Darkness Within Her

  • Eve wakes up being hopeful. Today is the day that she will manifest, or so she believes. There are maids preparing her with specific uniform, training body and mind. But today, they prepared a beautiful summer dress, long like a fantasy fae book. She is in awe, as she has never worn something so majestic. “This is so beautiful. Are you sure this is for me?”, she asks, making sure. “Of course! Mr. Crow had this for you” the maid reassures her.
  • Eve swirls around seeing the fabric spread across the room. She feels it light and cozy yet she looks so elegant.
  • “Oh my, so pretty!” the maid comments. Eve feels teary, as she was never called pretty before. Eve goes out of the room and has breakfast; eggs with bacon and orange juice. Axel appears and goes up to talk to her.
  • “Miss Rose, you look radiant”.
  • “Good morning Axel! Please, call me Eve!”. Axel nods. “Eve, I hope you had a good night’s sleep”.
  • “Yes, it feels like I slept on the clouds or something!” she giggles.
  • “That is great to hear! Mr. Crow is waiting for you outside, are you ready?”. Eve stands up and follows Axel. She feels her heart heavy as she is about to do something that was considered impossible. They reach the backyard, a field filled with flowers and trees connecting to the forest. Ezra is waiting there, wearing a white shirt and black vest with black pants. He has his white hair done in a ponytail.
  • “Good morning mr. Crow” she tries to sound polite. “Eve let’s start” his face shows no sympathy. “So, what are we going to do today?”, she asks him and he hands her a book. As she grabs it, she notices how the book is separated.
  • “Light and Dark”, she reads the title.
  • “Light Magic is also called Holy. It’s a right use of magic without the need to harm someone to obtain it. Light Magic is creation. Dark Magic, also called Unholy, is using sacrifices and rituals that would put in harm's way any creature. Dark Magic is destruction”.
  • “What is this? Why did you have this page marked for me?”, she says, as she only read this particular one. “So you will never strafe from your path”. Bewildered, she asks, “What path? How would I strafe?”.
  • “I might know why you aren’t yet in touch with your type. But it also means that you are more in danger than others”.
  • “What does this mean?”.
  • “It means that there are types of Magic that sometimes cling into the Darker, or Lighter side of the spectrum”.
  • “And what about mine?It seems you already know”.
  • “I might know. But yes, if I’m correct, it clings to the Darker side”. She gulps down, feeling uneasiness as he says these words. “So, what do we do?”, she wants to know the next step. Instantly, he pulls out a ring with an amethyst on it.
  • “This will help us see what your type of Magic is. We use modified tools like a ring or a necklace that helps us use a bigger part of our Magic. In your case, it might unlock your form”. Eve examines the ring and it feels familiar. She shakes off that thought to see where this is going. Ezra proceeds to move her in the middle of the field and has her stand there. He grabs a golden ring and puts it on her index. He then starts waving his hand on top of the ground. It looks like he is marking something.
  • “Close your eyes”, he orders and she follows. “Visualize the energy around you. Have it spread across the field”. Eve does so, feeling a vast Magic unfolding.
  • “Now, Raise your hands”. As she does, she senses her energy growing, touching every bit of this place. She feels the surge expanding, a beautiful flow, different from other times that she has come in contact with her magical side.
  • She waits for his next instruction, but nothing breaks the silence. She hears a weird sound, like something is moving, and she thinks, “Did I do it?!”. But Ezra doesn’t talk. “Maybe I didn’t make it, let me try once more”, and with that thought, she follows the instructions he gave before, almost feeling satisfaction.
  • “Eve stop!” Ezra shouts worried.
  • Aghast, she screams and decides to open her eyes. Her eyes quickly scan around, only to see ramble covering what were flowers once. “What--what is this?”, she is in shock, seeing all this vines, dark and long, moving as she does. The sense of pride is being shadowed by shame, a shame she isn’t sure why she has it, but she knows, this Magic isn’t the good kind.
  • “Don’t fright, it’ll be alright”, he tries to calm her, but it’s obvious this wasn’t how he expected. “Just, move your hands back, lower your heartbeat, take deep breaths”, he tells her to do, and she tries her best to follow through. As it starts working, the ramble starts to cluster away, vanishing from sight. Instantly, she removes the ring and throws it to the ground, like this is all source of evil and not her.
  • “Was this…my Magic?”, regretfully, she asks. “It seems so”, with disappointment, he answers. “What--what is this?”, she tries to understand. “What I feared”.
  • “What you feared?”.
  • “Magic like this…is rare”, he just adds. “What is this supposed to mean? And why are you so in shock?”, she demands to know. “It’s one of these types that are borderline”.
  • “Borderline?”.
  • “It means, even though it has Dark origin, it bends on Magic laws”.
  • “That type of Magic exist?”.
  • “Rare, but it does”.
  • “And somehow, I have this specific type”, she says, and her voice fades in irony. “So, what now? What do we do?”, she wonders. “We learn how to control it”.
  • “Control it? I can barely create”.
  • “Now that you’ve unlocked it, it won’t stop growing. You think throwing the ring will help you out, but you are the source of all this power, no one else”.
  • And with these words, she reaches with her palm open, and she feels the ramble reaching once more, proving that he is right. “So that’s it? I just summon some vines?”.
  • “No, it’s far more than you think”.
  • And these words will swirl in her mind till the time comes once more.
