Chapter 8 Let Her Go

  • “Mate!, did you just say mate?” Lucas exclaimed in surprise. He now understood the reasons behind Devon’s strange behavior as of late.
  • “It didn’t occur to me. Why didn’t I think of that?” Lucas added, still surprised. Devon let out a loud growl before taking off again, leaving Lucas behind.
  • “Wait for me!” Lucas yelled after him. He was curious to know who Devon’s mate was. Was she also a Lycan? He wondered.
  • The cloud roared as heavy rain poured down from the sky, dampening Devon and his Beta.
  • After running for more than thirty minutes, they arrived at a house. Lucas looked at them with scrutinizing eyes. “Is this the place?” He asked Devon, as he was getting tired of running already. He got no reply, as expected. Devon wasn’t even paying attention to him. Everywhere was filled with thick darkness as they walked onto the premises. It wasn’t a problem for them, because they were Lycans. Lycanthropes had great eyesight. They could see from a long distance, they could also hear from a long distance, and had a great sense of smell too.
  • Devon let out a more feral growl this time and dashed into the house, demolishing the front door.
  • “Wow! What a great first impression, “Lucas said sarcastically, as he went in as well. He hoped Devon wouldn’t startle her. Who wouldn’t be startled when they saw someone barging into their house unannounced? He thought.
  • Devon dashed up the stairs immediately, and the next second, a long bang was heard. “Devon!” Lucas yelled in bewilderment when he heard the sound.
  • “Get your filthy hands off her!” Devon roared when he saw a strange person strangling his mate. He moved fast and attacked the man. This caused the furniture in Alice’s room to crumble.
  • Alice fell on the floor as she felt life come back to her. Who saved her? She wondered. Lucas came into the room to find a girl unconscious on the floor and Devon fighting with a strange person. Devon had transformed fully to his form and was attacking the man viciously.
  • The man tried to fight back, but Devon didn’t give him a chance. Blood seeped through his open wounds. The strange man looked around the room for an escape. And his eyes finally landed on the window.
  • The problem he had was to get Devon off him.
  • Lucas rushed to the unconscious girl on the floor to check if she was okay. He became wide-eyed immediately when he realized who she was. She was a human. He gasped in shock. Their new Luna was a human.
  • The man finally got away from Devon. He dashed to the window quickly and jumped through it. This shattered the entire window. He ran as fast as he could under the pouring rain, away from Devon.
  • Devon was about to run after him when he saw the sight of Lucas trying to carry his mate. “Mine! Lucas backed off, apologizing. A nervous grin spread across his face as he raised his hands in surrender. He didn't want Devon to attack him, he was just trying to help..
  • Devon transformed back to his human form, but his eyes were still red. He squatted down to meet Alice, and he touched her face softly. “Mine,” he said, a word that was foreign in his mouth out loud.
  • Lucas watched as Devon picked Alice up and walked out of the now-destroyed room. Emotions overwhelmed him.. He was still surprised that she was human, but Lucas was overjoyed that Devon had finally found his mate. He looked out the shattered window, in the direction the strange person went. “who the hell was that” he muttered to himself. The only person he could think of that could do something like that was Liam.
  • But Lucas was sure it wasn’t him. Even Devon just found out she had a mate, so could Liam know?
  • He followed Devon and his mate out quickly. It seemed she lived alone. He was certain, no matter how deep a sleeper someone was, one would wake up immediately when they heard the noise that occurred earlier...
  • They finally arrived at where the car was parked. Lucas hurriedly opened the door for Devon with a wide grin on his face. He glanced at his watch to see what time it was. It was almost 4 am. They were gone for more than three hours. He entered the car and started it, glancing at Devon and his mate occasionally through the rearview mirror.
  • Devon was trying his best to keep her warm. As she was wet from the rain, he hugged her tightly. Alice’s eyes fluttered open, and she saw a glance at Devon. Who was he? Where were they taking her? She fell unconscious again.
  • The man with golden eyes stood in a dark corner. The rain poured on him, and he watched as they drove away. He underestimated Devon. He now knew he wasn’t called the Alpha Supreme for nothing.
  • The cloud gave out a roaring thunder. “It has started,” he muttered, a vicious smile returned to his face as he disappeared into the shadows.
