Chapter 16 Subdued

• "Mama!" Anastasia's cry was not enough. The doctor took her out of the room, and she cried inconsolably. "God, don't take my mother! I need her with me, please!" Anastasia slid down the cold hallway wall, curled up, clung to her feet, buried her head in her knees, and sobbed. She cried with all the strength of her heart as she mentally begged God for her mother's life.
• It took only three minutes before the doctor who had taken her out of the room touched Ana's shoulder.
• Anastasia lifted her chin, and when she looked into the doctor's eyes, she understood perfectly. The doctor didn’t even need to say it aloud—her mother had passed away.
