Chapter 2 The Infamous son of the Queens

  • The Queen family got all the information that they needed about Triple J’s accident from the cops, including the name and address of the hospital where he had been allegedly taken to.
  • Luckily, Mr. James Queen was in town when the incident occurred, he had headed straight to the hospital from his office and the other family members coincidentally arrived there at the same time.
  • The Queen family hurried into the hospital and headed straight to the receptionist to ask for their son. It was one of the small local hospitals in the outskirts of the city. What was Jimmy even doing so far from home? He had only left hours ago
  • Jimmy James Junior, or Triple J as he was fondly called is the first and only son of Mr. James Queen; one of the city's richest millionaires with the biggest wine producing company in Las Vegas.
  • The Queen family was not just influential but one of the few millionaires with a legitimate source of income. As everyone knows Las Vegas is run by mostly gamblers and drug dealers; there are more casinos than schools in the city, so coming across a family with legit wealth isn’t something that you get to see every day.
  • “Hello, we are here to see our child, please,” Susan spoke ahead of her husband as they approached the less concerned lady at the counter.
  • She was silent for three seconds while scribing something down on a piece of paper, and then without looking up, she spoke, “Name of patient please?” she asked bluntly.
  • “Jimmy Queen,” Mr. James answered immediately, not minding the lady’s attitude. If there was anyone who found it irritating, it was Rebecca.
  • The sassy young lady clenched her fist and scoffed in annoyance. Not like she cared much about her brother, in fact she despised him, but she wouldn’t mind taking it out on this silly nurse or receptionist; whichever one that she was.
  • After going through her computer, she finally looked up at them with a solemn face. “There is no such name on our list sir. I think you have come to the wrong place.” She said with her lashes fluttering.
  • “No, I am sure that this is the place; please check for James Junior or Triple J, or any name related to Queen. We were informed that he was brought here,” Mrs. Queen insisted.
  • “Can I know the doctor responsible for his treatment?” she asked coldly. The lady was so relaxed like she wasn’t a bit bothered by their problems.
  • “We don’t know the Doctor, we just got a report from the police that our son had been brought here.” Susan replied again
  • The lady sighed and shook her head. “I am sorry Ma’am, but we cannot help you if you don’t have any details about the patient you are looking for,” she said
  • Rebecca took a step forward immediately and slammed her fist on the counter. She had been silent long enough because she didn’t want to jump on the gun, but now she has had enough. “Is this the way you attend to people? Do you know who the hell we are?” she yelled angrily. Of course, she never hesitated to use her family’s status to intimidate people.
  • The lady must have been frightened by the sudden outburst and so was every other person in the hospital hall as they all turned their attention to the counter. However, the receptionist refused to be intimidated by Rebecca’s rage; she seemed to be another Psycho on her own.
  • “I am sorry ma’am, but you can’t do that here. If you want me to find your patient, then you should give me something that would help me to do so, instead of raising your voice!!” she fired back.
  • It was either she didn’t give a damn or she must be having a pretty rough day. Either way, the lady over the counter showed no signs of fear.
  • “You can’t tell me what I can do and what I can’t do; it seems to me that you don’t love your job. I won’t just get you fired; I will have you thrown behind bars!!” Rebecca threatened angrily while Aria tried to hold her back.
  • Just then a doctor walked over to the counter, he seemed to be going somewhere in a hurry but his attention had been pricked by the scene.
  • “Excuse me, what is going on here?” the man asked, as he stared curiously from the lady at the other side of the counter to the Queen family.
  • “This lady has neither manners nor any idea how to treat guests. We are looking for a patient reportedly admitted here and she shows no interest in helping us find him, rather she is being so rude to us,” Rebecca fired immediately.
  • “How the hell am I supposed to help you if you can’t give me the right details about the person you are looking for?” the staff retorted.
  • “Alright, enough Cecile!! Just because your uncle owns the place isn’t enough reason for you to talk to guests that way!!” the doctor scolded her.
  • She rolled her eyes at him and quickly sat down like she didn’t give a damn what he said. The doctor sighed and turned back to the Queen family.
  • Mr. James had been silently watching them, he was a very quiet man and everyone respected him for that, but sometimes his wife saw his quietness as cowardice.
  • “I am sorry about that, Sir. Please tell me about the patient you seek and I might be able to help you,” he offered.
  • “We are looking for my son, he was involved in a car accident at the bridge not too far from here and the police reported that he was admitted here.” Susan answered; she was still reeking of fear.
  • “Oh, the accident? Yes, about eight patients were brought here this afternoon from that scene, some rescued from the river below. But we will need further identification in order to find the exact patient you seek,” the doctor uttered.
  • “Here is his picture, I think this would help,” Aria said and stepped forward immediately with her phone in her hand. It was displaying a picture of Triple J.
  • The doctor took the phone from her and adjusted his glasses before looking at them and then his face brightened. “Oh, wow… I recognize this patient. I am actually the doctor taking care of him. Please come with me, I will take you straight to him,” the Doctor said to their delight and then he led them down the hallway.
  • Rebecca however made sure to flip her hair disrespectfully at the receptionist before following the others down the hallway. The receptionist had sworn at her but that was useless as Rebecca didn’t hear any of it. Maybe they should have just led with the picture and saved themselves the drama.
  • They walked down to one of the hospital rooms and just as they got to the door, a nurse walked out of the room with a tray holding used syringes and bottled medicine. She had gloves on her hand and face masks to cover her nose.
  • “Doctor Abraham, I was just about to call you. The patient has regained consciousness,” the nurse announced.
  • The Queen family was delighted with the information but they were still curious to see their son; Susan in particular was desperate while Rebecca was suddenly no longer in a hurry to see Jimmy. Maybe she would have enjoyed watching the arrogant brat while he was unconscious, but he would be more of an asshole now that he was awake.
  • “Oh, that is perfect timing, thank you for taking care of him,” the young Doctor said to her and smiled. Maybe that wasn’t just any normal smile, there certainly was more meaning to it but let’s leave that to them.
  • “Just doing my job,” the nurse replied and smiled behind the mast before walking away.
  • Enough Romeo and Juliet time. The doctor pushed open the door and they walked in to meet a young man lying on the bed. He had a bandage tied around his forehead and wrapped under thick hospital bedspreads. The color had been drained out of his face and he stared at them silently.
  • “Jimmy!!” Susan called out in relief and excitement as she ran to him and cupped his cheeks. “I am glad you are safe, haven’t I always asked you to drive carefully? Why did you get in an accident? You gave me a scare!!” she yelled.
  • “Let him breathe, woman, he is just going to pass out again if you keep pestering him,” Mr. James said and his mouth curved into a smile. He was also glad to know that his son was fine.
  • Aria stood close to the patient and smiled, she was glad that he was alive or she would have never gotten the chance to apologize to him, even though he was at fault this morning. Jimmy would only take the first step at reconciliation on a cold day in July.
  • “I really thought we would finally be getting rid of you, but how would I forget that the big bad wolf never dies,” Rebecca joked with a stern face and then she smiled slightly. “Don’t even think I feel sorry for you, this isn’t empathy, it’s just being a sister, I am glad you finally got a slap on the wrist.” She said and folded her arms.
  • “Why aren’t you saying anything, Jimmy?” Aria finally spoke with her nose stuck in the air. It was unusual for Triple J to be quiet, not even a hospital bed was enough to keep him shut, something was wrong.
  • “Sorry, who is Jimmy?” the man on the bed asked and held his hurting forehead.
  • The family froze and stared at each other silently, and then they burst into laughter. “Hahaha, nice one Triple J,” his father chuckled.
  • “Triple J? Who is that? Who are you people? What am I doing here?” the patient suddenly asked with his forehead furrowed, and then he began to panic, trying to pull off the cannula from his body.
  • The family is shocked by his reaction and the doctor immediately tries to hold him down. Something was wrong? Why wouldn’t he recognize them?
  • To be continued!!
