  • Aria seemed to like the idea of dodging the views of the doctors, so that was the idea I was going for. I had mentioned it in passing, but her laughter had told me it was a game she thought could be fun. In truth, I doubted they would argue massively with me if I told them what I was doing, but a tiny sliver of doubt in the back of my mind was making me unsure. Aria was still under close observation. And that uncertainty was making me fearful of having to let Aria down, and that simply was not an option right now.
  • “I hear voices.” She whispered, and I chuckled, tucking the chair and myself into a nearby empty alcove within the corridor as some junior doctors wandered past us deep in conversation about surgery they were about to perform. I waited until their voices were well out of earshot, until all I could hear was the heavy breath of both Aria and myself, before I stuck my head out into the corridor once again. There was nobody walking along there now, so the coast was clear for us to continue our bid for freedom...
