Chapter 29
- Alexa's face drops, "I entered the system and was placed in a foster home where the father liked to "Help" the girls in the house," she explains, using her fingers for a more dramatic effect. "That's what he called it. I ran away and have been on my own ever since."
- Roxy's heart aches for her. No one should be treated this way. She utters in a whispered voice, "I'm so sorry, Alexa." Alexa's expression changes from zero to sixty in two seconds flat, "No, Don't! I don't want your pity. I'm good," she exclaims with exasperation, her face flushed with outrage.
- Alexa decides to proceed, "That's why I decided to go to school and become a social worker, To help the kids get out of these horrible situations and into better ones." Her eyes trail off towards the window, filled with discomfort, rage, and glumness.
