Chapter 1: Wrecking a Havoc at the Wedding

  • It had never once crossed my mind that people could be this shameless.
  • My mother still being hospitalized, but my father and his mistress could bear to have a wedding without any guilt.
  • This was the scene that greeted me when I come back to home after half a month.
  • There was a Western-style buffet spread in the garden full of roses, while people mingle. In its entirety, the atmosphere was oozing with joy and harmony.
  • I could hardly believe that Ning Hairong, the happy-looking groom holding a glass of wine, would be my father, my biological father.
  • Half a month ago, he slept with another woman while being in the same house as my mother and I.
  • That woman happened was this bride, a woman that practically grew up staying in my home, who was only four years older than I was, Song Meiqian.
  • When they were caught in bed, my father did not bother to explain. The first thing he said being he would marry Song Meiqian.
  • My mother straightaway threw herself off the third floor of the villa. Even at the time of the wedding, my mother was still bedridden.
  • The more I thought about it, the stronger the hate became.
  • Right now, I just felt a rushing gush of blood in my body. Hate and fury was bubbling inside of me. I was at my limit—I could almost kill them!
  • Clang—
  • I rushed into the venue in a state of bewilderment, smashing their wedding photo with all might. The glass shattered and the shards flew all over the place.
  • Yet, doing all these did not make me feel better. On the contrary, my rage was burning even more intense. Without heeding those glass shards, I picked up the wedding photo with my bare hands. I wanted to tear it into pieces!
  • Ning Hairong walked over in burning anger, as if he was about to choke me to death. He shouted, “Ning Jing! What are you doing?! Huh?!”
  • He wasn’t ashamed of himself at all, and he did not feel a slightest bit of guilt.
  • “What am I doing? Do you know what you’re doing?”
  • I was so furious that my teeth chattered. I pointed at Song Meiqian, glaring at her until my eyes seemed like they were going to pop out any moment. “My mom’s still lying in the hospital, but you’re so in a hurry to marry this woman?”
  • Song Meiqian hastily stroked Ning Hairong’s chest. With reddened eyes, she pretended to console him, “Don’t get angry. I can understand why Xiaojing’s like this. After all…”
  • I took a glass of red wine from the buffet table and threw the wine on her, all the while glaring at her with hate. “Song Meiqian! After all? After all, you’ve realized that you’re shameless?!”
  • I tried to recall every malicious word that I could, but they still were not enough to convey even a fraction of the hate that I’ve felt. I gripped onto the wine glass in my hand so hard, as I held back the urge to hit her with the glass.
  • “AH—” she shrieked. The red wine seeped through her spotless wedding dress. She looked like she was at a loss of what to do and just blinked her eyes. Streams of tear ran down her cheek as she batted her eyes. “I know you never liked me, but your dad and I are getting married. We’re going to be a family. Can’t you let go of the prejudice against me?”
  • Ha! Putting up this act again—it was just too fake!
  • Since childhood, she was always able to put on the look of a victim, looking like she was extremely aggrieved yet big-hearted, no matter what was the truth. Those who didn’t know what happened, would definitely belief that I put her in trouble on purpose, just because I didn’t like her.
  • The exact same stance, she was obviously the one who climbed on to my father’s bed, but she spoke so magnanimously as if I was the person at fault!
  • Both of my fists were clenched. My nails pierced my palm, but I couldn’t feel the pain. I said through gritted teeth, “A family? If we are a family—“
  • “Slap!”
  • A slap landed heavily on my cheek. It was a powerful and merciless.
  • The sudden slap caught me off guard. I staggered for a couple of steps before I fell to the ground. Glass shards pricked my knees. The metallic yet sweet notes of blood swept through my oral cavity, while my ear buzzed.
  • Ning Hairong pointed at me, splattering his saliva all over. “Shut up! Didn’t you claim that you would never come back to this house again half a month ago?! Get lost!”
  • This was my father… this was actually my own father!
  • I was in a daze for a few seconds. In a flash, grievance had replaced my anger and flooded me, I was stuffed in the chest and aching at the same time.
  • I felt my vision became blurring. Warm liquid seemed to be falling from my eyes.
  • The people around were pointing their fingers at me. Helpless, I lowered my head, closed my eyes, and tried to hold my tears back.
  • All of a sudden, a shadow was casted above me. A man’s deep voice rang, “Ning Jing?”
  • I looked up, looking for the source of the voice. At that moment, I felt like my heart missed a beat. “Mr. Cheng, y-you… Why are you here…”
  • Cheng Jinghao, the vice president of a startup company. The last time I met him, I was prepared to tell him my feeling, but I happened to find out that he had a girlfriend.
  • From that moment on, I did everything I could to avoid him.
  • I never thought I would bump into him being in this sort of miserable and embarrassing situation.
  • I hurriedly wiped off my tears and felt at wits’ end. I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it.
  • He was dressed in a simple black outfit in an elegant bearing. With one hand in his pocket, he said in a low voice, “You’re not going to get up?”
  • I was a little nervous. I wanted to quickly stand up, but I didn’t bear in mind about my wounded knees. I couldn’t stand properly and once again took a tumble, only to fall into a warm and sturdy chest.
  • Cheng Jinghao agilely took me into his embrace. His cool, pleasant scent enveloped me. My body instantly stiffened as I tried to nudge him away. “T-t-thank you. I’m alright.”
  • He didn’t seem like he was going to let me go. His firm and warm grip fastened onto my waist.
  • Song Meiqian asked in a somewhat flustered tone, “You… Why are you here?”
  • Chen Jinghao said indifferently, “Mr. Ning sent me an invitation. I didn’t believe when I saw the photo and the names on the invitation. But, it’s really you.”
  • His spoke calmly , but it seemed to be masking a turmoil of inexplicable emotion. Whether it was disappointment or something else, I couldn’t tell.
  • Song Meiqian bit her lower lip, looking as if she wanted to explain. Tears were looming in her eyes. Nevertheless, she only asked, “You and Ning Jing know each other?”
  • Cheng Jinghao gripped me even tighter on my waist. I had no other choice but to stick close to his body, I could feel the tense muscles under his shirt. His moves were intimate yet ambiguous. I was so nervous I practically held my breath.
  • He caressed my hair in a pampering way and said meaningfully, “We’re far more than just knowing each other.”
  • Such an ambiguous and scandalous remark, as well as the change of attitude he showed – from the indifference to affection – it threw my feelings into a chaotic state.
  • “Chen Jinghao, the two of you aren’t compatible. It isn’t worthwhile for you to do this for…”
  • Song Meiqian stared at him with a scorching gaze. However, the moment she glanced at Ning Hairong, her voice suddenly died down.
  • Cheng Jinghao showed a rogue smirk. He asked in a sarcastic tone, “For what?”
  • This time, I would be an idiot if I still didn’t sense anything.
  • Out of impulse, I hooked my hands on his neck, tiptoed, and sent a very light kiss to his lips. Surprisingly, he held onto the back of my head and deepened the kiss, turning it into a lingering and overbearing kiss.
  • My heart almost jumped out of my throat. I wanted to push him away, but he grabbed me even tighter. In that tightening of grip, there was a hint of warning.
  • Ning Hairong pulled my arm as he wanted to pull me apart from Cheng Jinghao. He berated, “Ning Jing! You’re a girl! Don’t you know shame?!”
  • I shook off his hand violently and said in a stern voice, “If the upper beam isn’t straight, the lower ones will go aslant! In what position are you to tell me what to do?”
  • His face flushed in anger. Just as he was about to pull me away, Cheng Jinghao suddenly grabbed his wrist. With blatant despise burning at the depth of his eyes, he warned coldly, “Mr. Ning, isn’t it your wedding day today?”
  • Only then, Ning Hairong realized that the guests around were all overlooking at this chaos. He flung his arm, sending a death glare at me and drove me away under his breath, “Embarrassing thing! Scram!”
  • I was going to rebut, but Cheng Jinghao suddenly stooped low and scooped under my knees to carry me up. I let out a soft exclaim of surprise. My hands automatically ringed around his neck.
  • He looked down with half a smile then said to me, “Let’s go. If this house doesn’t welcome you, I’ll take you home.”
  • His voice was very gentle. The phrase “back home” once again threw my head into a mess.
  • Ning Hairong was flushed with rage. He bellowed out loud, “Ning Jing! If today you walk out of the door of this house…”
  • Cheng Jinghao carried me and walked away without hesitation. The voices behind us gradually faded.
  • Waves after waves of incredulity burst within me. Wasn’t this my home, yet I had become the stranger.
  • After we were out of the Ning’s villa, his footsteps came to a stop next to a Buick. The black sedan was parked in the middle of a sea of overtly costly vehicles, the Buick stuck out like a sore thumb..
  • Where was he taking me?
  • With coldness in his eyes and his voice, he said, “Aren’t you coming down? Seems you’re really into your character.”
