Chapter 8 Singing The Same Tune

  • “You?” Raymond chuckled. “Should you know about it?”
  • “Of course.” Joshua declared, “Woodhaven Group belongs to me. Of course I should be aware of such matters.”
  • The living room fell silent.
  • “Ha ha ha...”
  • Following that, everyone was in fits of laughter.
  • No one believed what Joshua said, and everyone was laughing so hard it hurt.
  • Jonathan quietly slipped away, sighing to himself. “Joshua's medical skills are impressive, but his mental illness is getting worse. Quinley brought him here, but he ended up embarrassing me...”
  • Upon hearing everyone's sarcastic remarks, Quinley couldn't help but blush in embarrassment.
  • She quietly approached and tugged at Joshua's sleeve, whispering, “Joshua, don't say anything more. Raymond's uncle, Wesley Xenos, works as a deputy director at Woodhaven Group. His information... it's likely to be accurate.”
  • “Quinley, he's wrong.” Joshua asserted, “The Woodhaven Group is mine. There's absolutely no chance of a collaboration with the Youngblood family. As for the pre-arranged deal, that's just baseless gossip.”
  • “How dare you claim that Woodhaven Group is yours?”
  • “Woodhaven Group spans across the entire country, with assets amounting to at least several trillion! I never imagined that such a massive commercial enterprise would actually belong to you, Joshua. Impressive, it's truly impressive!”
  • “Joshua, aren't you good at diagnosing illnesses? Why not prescribe yourself some medication first to treat your delusions?”
  • The entire Calloway family doubled over in laughter.
  • “Enough...” Trent wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes and said, “They should be done tidying up upstairs. Let's all go check on Mom.”
  • Everyone dispersed in an instant.
  • No one paid attention to Joshua anymore.
  • To them, Joshua was no longer the glorious man he was seven years ago. Instead, he had become nothing but a fool.
  • “Joshua...” Quinley felt a burden in her heart as she spoke in a solemn tone. “You've just returned to Lofbury. Take some time to settle in and look after Old Mr. Judd for the next few days. After that, I'll take you to Josquin Renovation Group. I'll arrange a job for you to start with, and then we can see how you progress from there.”
  • “Quinley, you don't believe in me either?” Joshua said with a wry smile.
  • “Of... Of course I believe in you!” Biting her lip, Quinley broke into a smile and said, “I believe that you'll definitely bounce back!”
  • “Um...”
  • Joshua continued to give a bitter smile but didn't say more.
  • Although Quinley didn't believe him, he knew that she had no intention of belittling him.
  • On the contrary, she had full confidence in him, something he appreciated.
  • After leaving the Calloway residence, Joshua gathered some medicinal herbs on his way back. He returned to the courtyard house where Zachary was staying and prepared medicine for him.
  • In the evening, as the scent of medicine dissipated, Clayton arrived in civilian clothing.
  • “Mr. Judd, the conditions here are terrible. It doesn't match your status.” He suggested, “I've arranged for a mansion to be vacated at the recreation facility. Would you consider moving there? The facilities there are better, and it would be beneficial for Old Mr. Judd's treatment.”
  • “There's no rush.” Joshua graciously refused, saying, “My father has been living here for the past few years, so he's quite familiar with the surrounding environment. With his illness, abruptly changing his surroundings could actually hinder his recovery.”
  • “I see...” Clayton apologized, “Apologies, that was careless of me.”
  • “When I returned in the afternoon, I noticed unfamiliar faces lingering around the nearby alleyways. Each of them moved with a steady stride. It's clear they are trained fighters.” Joshua asked, “Did you put them there?”
  • “Yes, the housekeeper, Lydia, was bribed by the Youngblood family and betrayed Old Mr. Judd by revealing his whereabouts. I have already had her entire family exiled.”
  • Clayton continued, “Since you've sent her away, there's no one to look after Old Mr. Judd. I took the liberty of arranging for the elite soldiers of the special forces to guard him in secret. With them around, you won't need to worry about Old Mr. Judd's safety when you go out.”
  • “Thanks, Clayton. I appreciate it,” Joshua expressed his gratitude.
  • The following morning, he went to Woodhaven Group.
  • Right after he passed the security check on the first floor, a man and a woman entered from outside.
  • It was none other than Tabitha, Quinley's cousin, along with her boyfriend, Raymond.
  • “Huh? Joshua, what brings you here?”
  • Tabitha was quite curious.
  • “Didn't he say that the Woodhaven Group belongs to him? Of course he's here to check on his own company.”
  • Raymond flashed a vibrant smile. Bowing playfully, he said, “Mr. Judd, I'll be counting on your generous support in the future!”
  • Pfft...
  • Tabitha burst into laughter, hanging onto Raymond's arm as she said, “Raymond, he was just being delusional yesterday. You didn't actually believe him, did you?”
  • Joshua gave them a cold glance, then turned and walked away.
  • “Don't leave!” Tabitha stopped him and said, “Joshua, let's be honest. You saw the job advertisement for Woodhaven Group, didn't you? You came here looking for work, right?”
  • Woodhaven Group had been recruiting recently, placing numerous advertisements.
  • At the entrance of the corporate building, there was also a job advertisement sign.
  • “Even if he's here, it's a waste of time.” Raymond remarked, “Woodhaven Group only hires the cream of the crop in the industry. What role can he possibly take up?”
  • “Well, that's true!” Tabitha agreed, stating, “Though he was quite successful in the past, he's been out of the corporate world for seven years now. That makes him outdated. Besides, he suffers from a delusional disorder. With such a condition, I'm afraid he wouldn't even qualify for a security guard's position.”
  • “Exactly!”
  • She suddenly turned to Raymond and said, “Raymond, isn't your uncle a deputy director at the project department? My family owes him a favor for yesterday. Could you perhaps talk to your uncle and see if he could spare a job cleaning toilets?”
  • “No problem. Anything for you!” Raymond nodded and said, “Joshua, come on, kneel and beg me! Plead with me, and I'll talk to my uncle for you, so you can stay at Woodhaven Group cleaning toilets.”
  • “Beg him, quick!” Tabitha remarked, “Joshua, with your qualifications, getting a job even as a janitor at Woodhaven Group is a blessing! Once this opportunity slips, there won't be another!”
  • The two of them conversed back and forth, speaking as if they were discussing a matter of fact.
  • “Idiots!”
  • Joshua was slightly annoyed and turned to leave.
  • “D*mn! Talk about not appreciating a kind gesture!”
  • Annoyed, Raymond blurted out, “Joshua, you better not regret this!”
  • “Sir, could you please lower your voice?”
  • The security guard at the checkpoint stepped forward to issue a reminder.
  • “Hey, I was just about to talk to you! How could you let him in? Woodhaven Group is such a high-end place. It's not somewhere any Tom, Dick, or Harry can just waltz in!” Raymond asked, “Are you not afraid that your boss might fire you for letting him in?”
  • The security guard's face was devoid of expression as he stated, “The gentleman earlier has an appointment.”
  • “Um...”
  • Stunned, Tabitha asked, “Who did he make an appointment with?”
  • “Apologies, but it's against our policy to disclose any personal information about our guests,” the security guard responded.
  • “You... You've let a bit of success go to your head! Just because you're a security guard, you think you're a big deal! If you don't want to tell me, so be it!”
  • Raymond shot him a glare, grabbed Tabitha's hand, and hurried toward the security checkpoint.
  • “Both of you, stop where you are!” The security guard stopped them, asking, “Do you have an appointment?”
  • “Do I need one? Take a good look at who I am!” Pointing to his nose, Raymond declared, “I'm the eldest son of the Xenos family of Lofbury, and my uncle, Wesley Xenos, is a deputy director in the project department!”
  • “I'm sorry. You can't enter without an appointment.” The security guard insisted, “Alternatively, you can reach out to Mr. Xenos and ask him to come down to get you.”
  • Raymond and Tabitha felt a wave of frustration.
  • How can someone like Joshua walk in with an appointment, while we have to wait for Raymond's uncle to come down and get us? What kind of logic is this?
  • The entire top floor of Woodhaven Group was the CEO's office, belonging to Camilla.
  • Ding!
  • Once the elevator arrived, Joshua walked out from within.
