Chapter 7 Drawing The Line

  • One minute...
  • Two minutes...
  • As each second ticked by, the tension between Jonathan and Quinley amplified. Their palms were slick with cold sweat.
  • Meanwhile, Joshua was lounging on a nearby sofa, legs crossed and pleased with himself.
  • “Three minutes have passed, hah!”
  • Someone was checking their watch, gleefully announcing the time.
  • The smiles on the faces of Logan and Trent's family increasingly deepened.
  • They were all waiting for Joshua apologize on his knees.
  • Some people just don't learn their lesson until they face the consequences. Since you've decided to mess with us, be prepared to pay the price!
  • Suddenly, the color drained from Heather's face as she hurriedly said, “Quickly...”
  • As soon as the words were spoken, everyone else in the master bedroom was startled.
  • Thinking there was some sort of issue with her, they gathered around her.
  • “Grandma, are you all right?”
  • “Have you reached your limit? It's all because of Quinley; she just doesn't want anything good for you, Grandma!”
  • “D*mn brat, what has the Calloway family done to you, causing you to harm Grandma like that...”
  • Trent's family was livid.
  • However, just as everyone was on edge, the sound of water dripping echoed from beneath the bed.
  • It turned out that Heather had wet herself.
  • Like a floodgate that had been opened, it was impossible to control once unleashed.
  • In the blink of an eye, a substantial amount of urine had soaked the sheets and bedding, seeped into the mattress, and eventually trickled down beneath the bed frame.
  • A full five minutes later, she had emptied her bladder, a look of unparalleled relief naturally spreading across her face.
  • Trent's entire family exchanged glances with each other, while Logan was dumbfounded.
  • “In traditional medicine, drugs are tailored to the patient's specific condition. Acute symptoms are treated immediately, while chronic conditions are addressed at their root.” Joshua rose to his feet, his voice leisurely as he spoke. “Dr. Morris, let's avoid making such elementary mistakes next time.”
  • Logan's face contorted. He was so embarrassed that he wished the ground would open up and swallow him whole.
  • “Did you say you want to offer me advice?”
  • “I don't want your head. I just want you to kneel and apologize to me!”
  • “I'll wait for you to kowtow and apologize to me!”
  • The high and mighty words that were said were now nothing but an embarrassment.
  • Joshua's address of Logan as “Dr. Morris” had become a huge slap in the latter's face.
  • Suddenly, Logan stomped his foot and stormed off, feeling too humiliated to stay.
  • “Dr. Morris?”
  • Trent glared resentfully at Joshua, then hurriedly chased after Logan.
  • His family had invited Logan to the Calloway residence, hoping not only to cure Heather's illness but also to leverage Logan's reputation to expand the Calloway family's medicinal herb business.
  • Thus, he had spent no small amount of money on Logan.
  • Unfortunately, Logan had made a fool of himself at the Calloway residence, rendering all his efforts futile.
  • This is all Joshua's fault!
  • Thump, thump, thump...
  • Trent dashed out in pursuit of Logan, hoping there was still a chance to salvage the situation.
  • “Amazing! A single dose is enough to see results.” Jonathan, with a twinkle in his eye, exclaimed, “It's no surprise that the miracle doctor Quinley invited is far superior to those fake doctors who are nothing more than charlatans!”
  • Fiona and her children had no way of defending themselves, their faces looking quite upset.
  • The look in Joshua's eyes was especially hostile.
  • “Mr. Jonathan, you flatter me. Dr. Morris does have some skills, he just isn't thoughtful enough, that's all.” Joshua gestured with his hand, saying, “Old Mrs. Calloway....”
  • Jonathan interrupted him, saying, “It's good for a young man to be humble, but excessive humility is just arrogance. I believe in you! You...”
  • He paused for a moment, studying Joshua closely before asking, “Young man, why do you seem so familiar?”
  • “Dad, don't you recognize him?” Quinley covered her mouth and chuckled. “He's Joshua!”
  • “Joshua...” Jonathan's face paled, and his eyes widened in shock. “Joshua Judd? You... you're still alive?”
  • Inside the master bedroom, almost everyone was flabbergasted.
  • Seven years ago, Joshua was involved in a car accident. Following that, rumors circulated about his mental breakdown, leading to his admission into a psychiatric hospital. Unfortunately, he fell off a cliff by accident.
  • As a result, he should have been dead by now.
  • Yet, Joshua was very much alive and standing right before their eyes. Members of the Calloway family were overwhelmed by a mix of emotions.
  • “Yes, it's indeed me.” Joshua chuckled. “Since it isn't my time, I guess I had no choice but to return.”
  • After the urgent situation with Heather was resolved, the women of the Calloway family stayed upstairs to help her clean up. The men, on the other hand, escorted Joshua downstairs to the living room.
  • “Thank you for curing Grandma's illness.”
  • “Mr. Judd is truly impressive. Instead of working as a CEO, he has turned into a doctor.”
  • “Thank you...”
  • Many in the Calloway family had complex feelings toward Joshua.
  • Back in the day, the Calloway family was nothing more than an insignificant family in Lofbury. It was only through their collaboration with Skyterra Pharmaceutical Group that they managed to elevate themselves to the status of a second-rate family.
  • After Joshua's death, the Calloway family lost their collaboration with Skyterra Pharmaceutical Group. Their family status stagnated, with many blaming it on Joshua's untimely demise.
  • To them, he should have died only after helping them rise through the ranks to become a first-rate family.
  • After failing to catch up with Logan, Trent returned upstairs to make a round. When he descended the stairs, his gaze toward Joshua had also become equally complex.
  • “Mr. Judd... Joshua, you're really lucky to have made it back to Lofbury alive.”
  • He gave Joshua a once over, then asked, “What are your plans for the future? If there's anything that the Calloway family can assist with, don't hesitate to ask.”
  • “Thanks for your concern, Mr. Trent.” Joshua said, “I've just returned today. Let's leave discussions about the future for later.”
  • “Alright! Let's do it as soon as possible though, the Calloway family wants to repay its debt to you.”
  • Trent pursed his lips, then continued, “Obviously, now that you've cured my mother's illness, we will certainly fulfill any request you have as long as it isn't outrageous.”
  • “Hehe...” Joshua gave a light laugh.
  • He clearly understood that Trent was eager to establish boundaries with him as soon as possible.
  • Also, he had a powerful enemy, and he didn't come home in glory. Therefore, he could tell that the Calloway family's attitude was motivated by self-preservation.
  • Even then, does our shared past no longer matter anymore? It’s such a waste that I supported them back in the day.
  • “There's one more thing you have to promise me.” Trent said, “My mother's bed-wetting is due to the medication, right? Please keep it to yourself.”
  • “Rest assured I will, Mr. Trent,” Joshua agreed.
  • He was waiting for Quinley to come downstairs, as he planned to say farewell to her before leaving.
  • When Quinley descended the stairs, Tabitha, Trent's youngest daughter, arrived home with her boyfriend, Raymond Xenos.
  • After inquiring about Heather's health, Tabitha asked, “Quinley, Woodhaven Group's tender for its new hotel renovation is tomorrow. You're planning to attend the tender opening session, right?”
  • “Yeah!” Quinley said, “If we can secure this deal, we won't have to worry about Josquin Renovation Group for the rest of the year.”
  • “Don't go, it's pointless.” Tabitha said, “Raymond has inquired on your behalf. You're only going to be a sideshow there. It's better not to show up at all.”
  • “Why is that?” Quinley, with wide eyes, asked, “I have put in a lot of work, so I am determined to succeed!”
  • “It's a waste of time. Even if you gave it your all, it would be in vain.” Raymond explained, “Woodhaven Group had privately decided on the Youngblood family's renovation company. The tender is merely a formality.”
  • “The Youngblood family?”
  • Quinley's expression subtly shifted as she instinctively glanced at Joshua.
  • When one spoke of the Youngblood family in the coastal city, they were referring to William Youngblood's household.
  • William was Joshua's aunt's husband.
  • Joshua's father, Zachary, was poisoned and driven to madness, possibly due to the malicious actions of the Youngblood family.
  • Moreover, over the past few years, the Youngblood family had been sending people to periodically humiliate him.
  • “Woodhaven Group has decided on the Youngblood family?” With a grin, Joshua remarked, “Why don't I know about it?”
