Chapter 10 Trust Me
- “Ms. Yates, is Ms. Cooper in? The HR director said a notice came from the CEO's office that I've been fired. What's going on?” Wesley asked emotionally at the elevator entrance on the company's top floor.
- “There were two reasons. Firstly, you used your position for personal gain, bypassing the proper procedures to sign a material supply agreement with the Xenos family. Secondly...”
- Speaking of that, Zoe swept an icy glance over Raymond before continuing, “Your nephew, Raymond, offended someone he shouldn't have offended.”
- “Huh?”
- Wesley was stunned.
- While the signing of the material supply agreement with the Xenos family back then didn't follow the usual procedures, it was approved in a meeting among upper management!
- “Me?”
- Raymond was also taken aback.
- Who had I offended? And how did it lead to Uncle Wesley being fired?
- “How absurd...”
- Tabitha wore a look of utter confusion.
- I've just finalized the matter of the traditional medicine supermarket in Cultural City with him, and it has gone up in smoke now?
- “Wesley, you have ten minutes. Pack your things and leave Woodhaven Group immediately! Additionally, Ms. Cooper announced that the company's existing collaborations with the Xenos family are completely terminated!” Zoe said coldly.
- Waving at the security guards, she ordered, “Keep a close eye on them. If they don't leave within ten minutes, throw them out!”
- “Understood!”
- The security guards stood at attention and saluted.
- Ring! Ring! Ring!
- Suddenly, Raymond's phone rang.
- It was a call from Damian.
- “Dad.”
- Raymond quickly picked up the call.
- “What on earth have you done out there, you b*stard? Woodhaven Group wants to terminate their collaboration with the Xenos family and even said that the previous payment for goods will be permanently shelved! That's five hundred million, permanently shelved!” Damian roared.
- “Dad, they can't just do this. We have a contract! If they refuse to pay, we'll sue them!” Raymond asserted, breaking out in a cold sweat.
- “Sue them? Woodhaven Group made it clear that they would assemble a legal team just to battle it out in court with the Xenos family! Even if we win such a lawsuit, it would take at least a few years! The Xenos family would be bankrupt by then! Which bigwig did you offend exactly, you b*stard? You'd better hurry and find the person to beg for forgiveness! Whether it's kneeling, prostrating yourself, or even groveling, do whatever it takes as long as he forgives you!” Damian cursed.
- “Dad, I didn't offend anyone! I've been behaving myself these past few days,” Raymond protested aggrievedly.
- “Behaving, my foot! Get your butt back here right now! Your grandfather has just been driven away in an ambulance. Do you want to be the death of me too?” Damian lambasted.
- Beep! Beep! Beep!
- The call was ended.
- Raymond had confusion written all over his face, utterly bewildered.
- Who on earth did I offend?
- A name suddenly flashed across his mind, and he wondered in astonishment, “Could it be him? Joshua? I've only ridiculed him recently.”
- “Joshua?” Shuddering, Wesley asked, “Raymond, didn't you say he was down on his luck?”
- “Him?”
- Tabitha also jumped in fright.
- After giving it some careful thought, she dismissed the idea. “It couldn't possibly be him! According to Quinley, he's residing in a courtyard house in the slums! If he truly has such extraordinary capabilities, would he be living there?”
- “That's true.”
- Raymond gave a nod.
- At that moment, the security guards rubbed their hands and warned, “Wesley, a friendly reminder that you have five minutes left. If you don't leave, we'll throw you out!”
- In the CEO's office, Camilla reported to Joshua after receiving the call from Zoe, “Boss, the matter with the Xenos family has been settled.”
- “Excellent!” Joshua gave a nod.
- Then, he asked, “Are you familiar with Josquin Renovation Group in Lofbury?”
- “A bit. The company originated from a renovation and design studio established four years ago. The founder is Quinley Calloway, the daughter of Jonathan Calloway, the Calloway family's second son. After you were sabotaged at that time, Boss, Skyterra Pharmaceutical Group terminated its collaboration with the Calloway family. Jonathan lost power. From then on, he never recovered from the bitter blow. Mrs. Calloway appeared united with him, but they were detached in reality, showing no interest in household matters henceforth,” Camilla replied.
- She continued, “Jonathan's eldest son, Matthew, lost himself to alcohol. He got into a fight after drinking and suffered a severe head injury, which drastically altered his temperament. Consequently, he became a lothario. Only Quinley remained relentless in improving herself and established this studio during her university days to make money and support her family. After graduating from university, she upgraded the studio and registered it as an official company. By her efforts alone, she expanded it to its current state.”
- At that point, something occurred to her, and she added, “For the recent renovation tender for our group's new hotel, Josquin Renovation Group has also participated in the tender.”
- “Quinley is pretty impressive.”
- Joshua nodded with a smile.
- Camilla smiled and said, “You're wise, Boss.”
- At the same time, Jonathan sat across from his daughter's desk at Josquin Renovation Group and groused, “Quinley, I noticed that our neighbor has upgraded to the latest refrigerators, but we're still stuck with last year's model. It's already humiliating that we were kicked out of the Calloway residence. Now, even our refrigerator is inferior to that of others. How embarrassing. I can't hold my head up when I see our neighbor.”
- “Dad! It's just a fridge. Is this necessary? Besides, we just replaced our refrigerator less than six months ago. It's not like it's unusable,” Quinley coaxed patiently.
- “You make it sound so easy! It's just a fridge, you said? Well, buy one for me, then! It's just a matter of twenty to thirty thousand. Yet, you can't afford it?” Jonathan questioned boldly.
- “Dad, do you think I own a bank? I'm only working on small-scale projects here. The profit margins are slim. Even after a month of work, I might not make twenty or thirty thousand in profit,” Quinley said with a bitter laugh.
- “That's your business! It has nothing to do with me!”
- Jonathan's eyes flickered, and he proceeded to suggest, “Why don't you just go along with your grandmother's arrangement and marry the young master of the Carell family? The Carell family is wealthy. He could buy me ten refrigerators without batting an eyelid! What do you think? Should I ask your grandmother to arrange for you two—”
- “I'll transferring the money to you now! Thirty thousand, for a refrigerator!”
- Quinley decisively gave him the money to send him away.
- After losing all power in the Calloway family, Jonathan spent his days idly. All he knew was to keep up appearances by spending lavishly.
- When he was out of money, he simply asked her for more.
- Over the years, Quinley had been struggling to manage the household expenses and was utterly miserable.
- But no matter how difficult or miserable it was, she refused to submit to her grandmother's arrangement and marry the young master of the Carell family.
- There had always been someone else occupying her heart.
- Ring! Ring! Ring!
- Suddenly, her phone rang.
- The caller ID showed Joshua's name.
- Quinley's eyes lit up. The gloom brought by Jonathan was instantly swept away.
- “Joshua!”
- She swiftly picked up the call.
- “Quinley, the tender opening for Woodhaven Group's renovation project is about to start. You're almost there, yes? “I'm waiting for you at Woodhaven Group in the lobby on the first floor,” Joshua gently asked.
- “Oh, you're waiting for me at Woodhaven Group?” Chuckling bitterly, Quinley admitted, “Joshua, I don't plan on going! I asked around yesterday, and it seemed that Woodhaven Group has already decided on the Youngblood family internally. If I go, I'd only be asking for humiliation, no?”
- “You've been deceived. I've also asked around, and there's no such thing!” Laughing, Joshua divulged, “On the contrary, I heard you have a pretty good chance of winning the tender.”
- “Really?” Quinley bit her lower lip and asked, “Joshua, you're not just trying to comfort me, are you?”
- “Trust me, and come. I'll be waiting for you,” Joshua said in the end.
- Quinley's heart pounded wildly like a jackhammer.
- Joshua, can I really trust you?
