Chapter 23 You're Finally Back

• “You're finally back,” Tyler says as if I have just returned from a weekend trip instead of disappearing after catching him in bed with my best friend, and the casual tone in his voice makes my stomach twist because it tells me he has already rewritten this story in his head in a way that makes him comfortable.
• I stand near the entrance for a moment, my key still in my hand, staring at him as he leans against the kitchen counter with his arms crossed, standing half-naked and dressed only in a pair of pyjama pants, as if there is not a graveyard of broken promises between us. My eyes move past him to the suitcases lined up by the hallway and the boxes stacked neatly beside them, and it takes me a second to understand what I am looking at.
