- Sadie was up before the sun, Sparrow’s lights blinkin’ on one by one down Main Street like that old block knew she needed ‘em. She fussed behind the counter, sleeves shoved to her elbows, hair pinned up in that lazy twist Beau loved ‘cause a single tug’d drop it all down her back.
- Beau leaned on the doorway, boots scuffin’ the fresh tile she’d made him seal twice ‘cause one scratch, Walker, and you’re refinishing the whole damn floor. His big arms crossed, rough palm slidin’ slow across the stubble on his jaw while he watched her line up scones in neat rows like the whole county wasn’t about to ruin that pretty order in five minutes flat.
