Chapter 37
- The house was hush when Cade’s name popped up on her phone that morning — a single ring, her thumb hoverin’ over the green bubble like maybe she’d hit decline just to make him sweat. But she didn’t. She swiped up, stuck it between her cheek and shoulder while she fussed with the fresh batch of scones Beau’d pulled from the oven twenty minutes late because she’d kissed him breathless over the flour bin.
- “Hey, big brother,” she sang, voice sugar sweet. Beau snorted from behind the counter where he pretended not to watch her sway while she boxed up the first orders.
- “Hey yourself,” Cade’s voice rolled rough through the line — half-laugh, half-heavy like he hadn’t slept much. “You ready, Sadie girl? Big day, huh?”
