Chapter 8 Seat swap

  • Isobel POV
  • "C'mon, Bel, you can tell me what happened?"
  • Katrina says for the tenth time, pulling my hand and staring intensely into my eyes.
  • I try so hard to blink back my tears; something that seems so hard to do.
  • I don't want to believe it, but no matter how hard I try to push the thought out of my mind, it keeps rushing in.
  • His mouth on mine, kissing me.
  • Ah! That's my first kiss, and I lost it to no one else but Javier.
  • I want to cry, hit myself, and curse myself. But no matter how hard I cry, the kiss still happens.
  • Javier took my first kiss.
  • Blinking back my tears, I shake my head and manage a faint smile on my lips.
  • "I'm fine," I smile. "Javier did nothing wrong to me yesterday."
  • "I don't believe it." She hisses. "Tell me exactly what's going on. Why you've been moody since yesterday."
  • I'd rather die than tell her that Javier kissed me.
  • I know Rina more than anything, no! I won't be selfish enough to put her in more danger
  • "I'm fine," I repeat. "Can we go to class already?"
  • I'm willing to do anything that will stop me from thinking about the kiss.
  • What was he thinking when he kissed me? Is this what he's going to do to me as his new prey?
  • Katrina sighs, she takes my hand in hers, gliding her fingers over the back of my hand.
  • "Listen to me, Isobel," she begins. "You can tell me anything that's going on with you, Bel. Tell me what Javier did..."
  • But I can't. No! Javier wants only me. I'm fine with him toying with me. I'm ready to put up with him bullying me.
  • That's what I get for being weak.
  • A small smile grazes my lips, mentally assuring myself that I'm going to be okay.
  • "It's fine," I smile. "Can we go now before the first class starts?"
  • "Fine," says Rina.
  • I know that tone; Rina is not the type to give up, but I'm not the kind of friend that will put her only friend into more danger.
  • Javier is dangerous, it's better to be only me facing his wrath.
  • It's just for a year....just a year and I'll be done with it.
  • With that in mind, I smile again, grabbing Katrina's hand in mine.
  • I can do it, and I'll survive this.
  • We both walk down to the door, and as soon as my hand land on the doorknob, the door pushes open, crashing against my forehead and sending my glasses down to the crook of my nose.
  • I stumble back. Pain shot through my forehead to my nose, and I can feel some sticky things running down my nose.
  • Blood.
  • Blood!
  • "Didn't see you there,"
  • Cassie enters, follows closely by Quinn and Jessie.
  • They close the door fully behind them and stand before us, their arms wrap below their chest, a wicked smile playing across their lips.
  • No... Not again.
  • Not Cassie and her friend again.
  • I've had enough since yesterday. Can they just let me off today?
  • "Apologize" Katrina pulls herself forward, leveling a glare at the three girls before her.
  • Cassie exchanges a look with her friends, then they all burst into laughter, rounding off on Katrina who still stands her ground.
  • I know we're no match for them. 2 to 3. No! 3 to 1
  • The best I can do is to get on my knees and beg them to let us go.
  • "What are you gonna do if we don't?" Cassie smirked, flipping her blonde hair such that some strand slapped Quinn hard in the face.
  • "Poke us in the eyes?" Jennie snorts.
  • I grab Katrina's hand before she can step forward or reply to them.
  • These three can get us killed and no one will question them about it. They could beat us and also get us expelled.
  • Yes! That's how powerful their parents are.
  • And the last thing I want now is to get Katrina into more trouble that will get her killed or expelled.
  • "No, Katrina," I whisper, closing my hand around her wrist and trying to pull her back." we can just go."
  • "See that," Cassie steps before me, her face just an inch away from me. "Your nerdy friend knows better than to ask for an apology from us. Isn't it?"
  • She pulls on my hair.
  • I bite down on my lip, swallowing the painful moan that's about to escape from my mouth.
  • "Ah... Seriously, Cassie," Katrina says with a smirk. "I won't say this twice, let her go."
  • "And what if I don't? "
  • It happens so suddenly I almost couldn't tell how it does.
  • For a split scary moment, I thought Cassie was dead when she lay sprawl on the floor, her legs hunching behind her that I'm sure she'd get a broken bone.
  • I gasp, clapping my hand over my mouth to muffle my scream as I step back.
  • "That," Katrina wipes her hand on her clothes. "Is what you get if you mess with me or her again."
  • Okay! I just realise I don't know much about Katrina.
  • How audacious she can be when she challenged Javier, and how fearless she stands right now even with Cassie laying half dead on the ground.
  • "What... What have you done?" Jennie howls, her eyes widening, darting too quickly from Cassie to Katrina.
  • "No," Rina chuckles. "We all know she's not dead, neither does she break a bone. And if she does," Katrina stops to pass me a glance, then she continues. "She'd heal up in no time."
  • Whatever it is she's saying, it seems like rubbish to me.
  • I don't know how a human can break a few bones and heal up in no time.
  • "Ah, you're right, I'd break a few bones" Cassie stands upright, dusting off her uniform, she stretches her arms and twists her neck. "And I'm not the type to die off just like that"
  • I let out a short yelp when Cassie's gaze lands on me, her lips twitching in a smirk and she takes a step back. "Not like your human friend. Tell me, " her gaze lands on Katrina, and a frown latches on her face. "What are you? You're not like me, are you? '"
  • "Find that out yourself" Katrina smirks. She grabs my hand. "C'mon let's go"
  • Before I could do anything more than open my mouth, Katrina whisks me out of the restroom.
  • It's strange, everything that happen in the restroom a few seconds ago. If I'm right, Cassie was laying there, almost dead, but she suddenly stood up looking unscathed.
  • No! I don't know how that can be possible.
  • And twice, two people make assumptions about Katrina not being human.
  • Of course, I know it's just some kind of a joke... A bad joke.
  • I just couldn't help but find it strange
  • I make a mental note to ask her about everything when it's lunch break.
  • We both enter the classroom and head to our seats, but on getting there, my feet move to an abrupt halt as my gaze lands on the one seating in Katrina's seat.
  • Javier leans against the chair, his legs slumping over the table as he gazes up at me with a grin on his face.
  • I feel my face heating up, and I mentally curse myself for blushing before him.
  • How could I? Someone as dangerous as him? And what is he doing here on Katrina's seat?
  • "Hi, " he waves, not to me, but the one behind me. "You don't have to glare at me like that, Katrina. Why won't you thank me for saving you? "
  • "Saving me? " Katrina chuckles. She takes a step forward, leaning her palm on the table. "What are you trying to do?"
  • "Swapping seat," Javier says with a casual shrug. He looks up at me and winks; no! Not the type of wink that melts your heart, but a kind of one that spells doom and makes you smell trouble. "To sit with Isobel, starting from today"
