Chapter 4 A vampire

  • Javier POV
  • "I heard you got into a fight today,"
  • My spoon stops halfway to my mouth and I stop munching the toast that's already in my mouth.
  • Flying my head up, I direct my glare to Rose who gives me a shrug and an ' I don't know ' look.
  • Sighing, I drop the spoon on the plate, lean back on the chair, and look up at my mom; the Luna of the Crescent moon pack.
  • Her blue eyes pierce into mine, almost burning me with their intensity.
  • She's the kind of person that makes people tremble even without trying. Her voice terrifies people without shouting. Yeah! That's what a Luna should be, not some pathetic weak human.
  • "Word does travel fast, doesn't it?" I scowl.
  • "Well, it's bound to get to her anyway." Rose shrugs her shoulder, giving me an ' I don't care look '
  • "I have you to thank for that, dear sis"
  • Mom clears her throat and I swiftly lift my gaze back to her. Even though she's my mom, she's also the Luna of this pack, and the last thing I want now is to feel the wrath of her anger.
  • A woman who can lead a troop army in a bloody war shouldn't be tested. No! A Luna respected by all packs across the world is not someone I'd like to get on her bad side.
  • "I heard a human thwarted you." She said calmly.
  • "She's not a human" I pass a glare at Rose.
  • "It doesn't matter what she is," mom scowls, finally dropping her spoon to glare at me.
  • Yeah! I'd expected more of that action ever since this conversation started
  • "What do you think will happen if the rest of the pack members hear of this? Their future Alpha, a weakling, beaten publicly by a mere human."
  • She pauses to draw a large quotation around the last sentence, then she continues. "Or the other Packs? Huh? You know we barely manage peaceful treaties among the two other Packs and us, what do you think their reaction will be if they hear?"
  • Yeah! They'll not be happy. A future Alpha is being thwarted by a mere human. But what will happen if they find out that the future Alpha is mated to no one other than a mere human?
  • I bet the other two packs will be happy. They'd use this chance to kill us, take over, and be the reigning pack in the entire city. Of course, no one wants an Alpha with a human mate.
  • It's a curse! A sign of perils.
  • The thought reels me so badly I feel my eyes burning. Not in tears, but in anger.
  • I ball my hands into fists, my nails biting into my fleshy palm to bring out the blood.
  • Her face; the stupid glasses on her eyes and her full bang annoys me so much I want to snap her head off her neck.
  • But then again, killing your mate is ten times worse than being mated to a human.
  • "The Alpha wants to see you," mom breathes out, jolting me back from my thought.
  • "I know right."
  • The word burst out of my lips before I could stop it; more loud and harsh than I intended it to be.
  • "What"
  • "Javier," Rose calls warningly.
  • "I'll go to him now," I slide my hand on my temple, rubbing it slowly as I stand up. "That's what I mean.".
  • Mom looks at me, her gaze expressionless, then her lips quirk in a smile that did not reach her eyes before she goes back to her eating.
  • "Intense." Zeke hisses within me.
  • "Yeah, quite intense."
  • I find my way up the stairs, down to the bright-lit hallway that leads to the meeting room.
  • I know where I can find the Alpha not because he's my Dad, but because it's where he should be.
  • With all this going on, I know he'd have proposed a meeting to decide what to do with me.
  • "Do you think she's not a human?" Zeke says.
  • "Of course," I reply. "I know a human when I see one."
  • I skim my hand over my chest where she's hit me and I sigh.
  • She moves too fast I almost couldn't see it, and her punch hit differently.
  • Hurt and painful.
  • No human punch can hurt me that way; not even the one that's been training ever since he's born.
  • I push the door open, entering fully before I close it back behind me.
  • Alpha Caine sits at the far end of the room. The moment he senses my arrival, he lifts his head to look at me. His face was dimly lit by the only candlelight in the middle of the table, showing the horrible scar that stretch from his left eye down to his upper lip.
  • Even a wolf can be cursed if he breaks a vow.
  • "I heard what happened," Dad said as calmly as ever you'd think he's some junky amateur thug who's scared of thunder.
  • Hey! I've learned to fear his low voice rather than his high-pitched one.
  • Of course, he did not sacrifice his left face just to be called a weakling.
  • "About fighting with a human."
  • That was not even a fight, I'd beat her if I wanted to. But I dare not say that aloud if I don't want to be tortured for a whole day without break.
  • Dad sighs, he perches his hands on the table, and leans forward. His eyes bored into me, coldly, daring me to look away.
  • "Found your mate already?"
  • I flinch, my heart doing a backflip jump on hearing that question.
  • Of course, I should have found my mate.
  • All wolves find their mate two months after they clock eighteen.
  • "No," I lie, my eyes boring into his.
  • I can't do anything that'll give me away.
  • No one can know, absolutely no one can know that my mate is one despicable human being.
  • "Alright," Dad nods, he lifts his gaze on me and focuses it on the book on the table, flipping it to and fro. "I thought you might have," he mumbles, "it's already two months after your eighteenth birthday."
  • "I'm worried too," I try to sound concerned as possible, making my expression sober and hard to detect a lie.
  • He looks up again, his gaze lasting for a fraction of seconds on me before he looks away.
  • "Of course," he sighs. "It happens sometimes. You can go then."
  • I nod.
  • "And nothing of such should happen again. "
  • I pull the door open and step out. Closing the door behind me, I release the breath I was holding
  • My hand on my chest, momentarily closing and opening my eyes.
  • I did not expect this to end soon. I know Alpha Caine is planning something behind me, but who am I to think of what that might be?
  • "I bet he scares the wit out of you too,"
  • Opening my eyes, I direct my gaze to where the voice is coming from.
  • Daniel emerges from the wooden door down the hallway, his blonde hair swept to the left side of his face, and arrows and bow tightly fasten around his back.
  • I pinch the bridge of my nose, leaning back against the wall to have a proper look at Daniel.
  • Daniel is my brother. Well, a brother I'll never acknowledge.
  • Before my Dad met my mom, he had an affair with a human and got himself a despicable human son.
  • He's gotten a scar on his face thanks to that. Because he promised his human lover a forever with her, but he had to break the vow before he's to be crowned as the Alpha.
  • "Hmm," I smile. "He's even scarier with that scar on his face. Thanks to your mom."
  • "Don't," Daniel grits out, his vein popping out and in of his skin. "Don't talk about my mom like that. He deserves it."
  • "Yeah," I shrug. "He did deserve it."
  • I walk up to him, stopping a step before him. Leaning my face forward, such that my lips are just an inch from his ear.
  • I can hear it.
  • His slamming heart. Beating so loudly It almost lifts me off my feet.
  • I silently chuckle. They're just the same. Weak, and pathetic.
  • "Stop getting so high on your mom," I whisper, smiling. "She's dead already. Killed by your father."
  • Pushing him away with my shoulder, I walk outside the building and stop at the entrance of the feast forest.
  • I don't know how long I can keep lying to them, or how long it'll take for them to find out about my mate.
  • But if possible, I want this to be buried forever.
  • "Yeah, me too," Zeke said sourly. "It's funny how expectance I was for our mate."
  • "She turns out to be a filthy human" I let out a short laugh. "What do you think about a nice night walk, Zeke?"
  • That's exactly what I need right now. To get away from everyone, everything that'll make anyone ask about my mate.
  • "Sounds nice."
  • I take in a deep breath, relaxing my muscle, preparing for the pain that I'm about to feel for Zeke to take over.
  • My stomach churns, my muscles break and my clothes tear at the hemline.
  • It's not as painful as the first time, but I did feel the pain.
  • Crouching on all four, Zeke lets out a happy howl, waging his fur tail.
  • "How is it?" I ask
  • "Feels nice to be out again." He says. "Let's go."
  • My wolf is a big black wolf with a pure white tail. Quite big and sassy.
  • I jump into the forest, inhaling the fresh smell of dirt and wood.
  • The moon is bright, perhaps, the moon goddess is having a feast after mating me with a human.
  • "Wait."
  • My feet move to an abrupt stop, my head raises in the air, and my nose flares up.
  • A metallic stench ruins the air and hit me hard in the nose.
  • Blood!
  • I hiss inwardly.
  • Something is going on. An attack or someone is killing.
  • Quietly, I follow the smell of the blood, and with each step I take, the stronger the smell becomes.
  • I hide behind a large tree, using its bark to shield me.
  • A silhouette of a female appears in the dark, clutching what seems to be an animal in her mouth.
  • No! Not clutching, definitely sucking out the blood of the animals.
  • "Ah, I get it," I grin.
  • "We get it." Zeke fires out.
  • Even in my sleep, I can make out the silhouette of the girl who hits me. My eyes slide down to her hand, where there were supposed to be nails, now grows full-length claws, covered in blood.
  • A black vein pops off her skin, darkening with each drop of blood she sucks.
  • The girl detaches her mouth from the animal; a fully grown bear, then she thrusts her hand into its stomach and brings out what seems to be its heart.
  • I stiffen a gasp. I've heard of her type eating people's hearts, but I've never witnessed it myself.
  • I watch, with a sense of curiosity as she throws it down into her mouth and chews it down
  • Hey!
  • "I finally know what she is."
  • "A vampire."
