Chapter 6 My crush saves me

  • Isobel POV
  • Javier throws me against the wall, and I land with a loud thud on the floor.
  • I shift back, trying to get away from Javier as far as I can.
  • "Look at that," Javier chuckles.
  • He crouches on the floor and wrenches my face up. His gaze levels with mine. His eyes, now a darker shade of blue pierce into mine with such intensity that I shudder in fear.
  • I just want to leave here, to get out of here, and never step foot into this class again.
  • "It's not fun if you're like this, Isobel," he hisses, leaning closer. "You're my new prey. Why? Are you getting fed up with me already?"
  • A new prey, that's what I am.
  • A tear slides down my face, and I could not help the shaky cry that escape my mouth.
  • Where has it all gone wrong? How did I end up being Javier Mendez's prey?
  • "Crying?" Javier cackles. He closes his hand tightly around my jaw, forcing my mouth open. "I hate to see that tear"
  • But I couldn't help it, the tears pour like a torrent of rain no matter how hard I try to blink them back.
  • Sighing, Javier releases my jaw, then he stands on his feet, shuffling away from me with a couple of steps.
  • "Look up," he says. "At me, Isobel"
  • I shake my head, shifting back. I will do anything else but look at him.
  • "You don't want me to repeat myself, Isobel," he groans
  • "Of course," says a familiar voice beside me. My nose catches up with the familiar scent and I could not help the relief sigh that escapes my lips.
  • "I told you," Katrina stands before me, her shoulder straighten and I can faintly imagine her glaring at Javier. "Do not mess with my friend."
  • "You are here." He says with a chuckle.
  • "As you can see, asshole!" Katrina spats.
  • She turns to me, and crouches down before me, grabbing my arm in hers.
  • "I'm telling you," Katrina grits her teeth. "Next time you mess with her,"
  • "What are you going to do? Huh? Drain my blood outta my body?" He cuts her off with a chuckle.
  • Katrina closes her eyes and then opens them back. She slowly turns to face Javier.
  • "I'm not nice, Javier."
  • "Of course I know," he replies. "Does she knows too? How brutal you can be? No! She won't probably know what you did to that animal yesterday."
  • I feel Katrina's hold on me tightens, and I raise my head to stare at her hunch back, shoulder tense.
  • I don't know what Javier is talking about, but whatever it is, I don't care.
  • No! I'm not going to let him manipulate the only friend that's willing to stand up for me.
  • "Don't mind him, Rina," I say weakly. "I believe... I believe you."
  • "You... What do you know?" Katrina says, her voice almost inaudible.
  • "You were probably busy for you did not notice the stench that stained the air yesterday. Ah... "
  • My eyes move up to look at Javier. A triumphant grin on his face as he slowly pinches the bridge of his nose.
  • "Of course I know," he smiles. "You don't want to be disturbed."
  • Katrina let out a shaky breath, her hand sliding off my arm.
  • "What do you want from me, Javier?"
  • No! She's not about to strike a deal with him, is she?
  • I grab her hand back in mine, desperately shaking my head. Javier is up to no good, and I'm not ready to let him have leverage over my friend.
  • Katrina turns to face me, she let out a weak smile and rubs my hand softly.
  • "It's simple," Javier says. "You can stay away from me whenever I am with your so call friend"
  • His gaze lands on me and a wicked smile unfurl on his lips making me shudder in fear.
  • Oh! That's it! I'm finally done. I'll be selfish if I let Katrina stays beside me and get her into more trouble.
  • Closing and opening her eyes, Katrina bite her lower lip, then she sighs.
  • "C'mon, Isobel, let's get you treated."
  • I let out a loud wince when she grabs my second hand.
  • Pain slices through my arms, spreading down to my body.
  • "Blood," she calls out, her eyes widen, "blood," she repeats.
  • "No,"
  • I might have hurt myself when I crashed against the wall and goodness, why does it take this long for me to find out?
  • I manage a faint smile on my face, trying to ease Katrina's whose face is now full of fear.
  • "I am okay," I mumble. "I am truly..."
  • "No!" She breathes out, letting my hand go. She stands up abruptly and without taking a second glance at me, Katrina bolts out of the classroom.
  • What? What's going on?
  • I try to stand up, but a hard kick in my rib sends me crashing back to the floor.
  • "Hey!"
  • Laughter erupts in the classroom, making me realize that I'm not the only one in class and I'd have Javier on my tail before.
  • I pull myself up, wincing from the pain in my elbow, a tear slides down my cheek, but I try hard not to burst into real tears.
  • I'm weak, but I'm not going to prove him right.
  • "What do you think you're doing?" Javier questions, stepping on my fingers. "Are you going to run after her? Are you stupid or you're just too dumb to understand?"
  • The sole of his shoe digs deep into my skin and I let out a painful moan.
  • "She sure is a hard one,"
  • Came a voice I'm not familiar with, but I know and I'd do anything to avoid getting into a clash with her.
  • "Hey, bro, are you being serious about making her your new prey?"
  • Rose, Javier Javier's sister crouches before me, pulling my hair to make me look up at her.
  • A large frown latches on her face then she let out a chortle.
  • "How do you tame that friend of hers? Hun? She does not look like the one to give up soon. "
  • "My little secret, sis" Javier chuckles. "Now you'll get away from her, she's only for me."
  • Javier hisses, pulling his sister from me.
  • My eyes burn, and pain shot through every part of my body, but my heart hurts the most.
  • This is what I've always tried to avoid. Not getting on the powerful ones' bad side. Keeping a low profile and living my life silently like I never exist.
  • No! Where has it all gone wrong?
  • I let out my tears. I know, it's pointless trying to act strong when I'm weak. It's pointless trying to prove them wrong when they're right anyway.
  • "C'mon,"
  • Come another familiar voice.
  • "How low can you be, Javier, bullying a human?"
  • A loud gasp spirals around the classroom, and the students break into chatters.
  • I feel a presence beside me, then someone pushes Javier away from me, releasing my fingers from his wicked shoe.
  • "What are you doing, Jake."
  • And I'm right! It's Jake
  • Even in my situation, I feel a jolt in my heart that has nothing to do with Javier bullying me, but everything to do with Jake.
  • Did he just stand up for me? Saving me from his close friend?
  • "Doing the right thing."
  • He crouches beside me, taking my hand in his, then he leans my head against his shoulder.
  • My heart stops beating for a moment, everyone stopped moving and I could not hear anything apart from the slow and steady beating of Jake's heart
  • "Are you okay?"
  • And he asks me if I'm okay.
  • I know this can only be a dream, but I silently pray that it's true, but even if my imagination is playing a dirty trick on me, I still want to enjoy this moment.
  • I lean closer, inhaling his scent; a mixture of mint and flowery scent...willing myself to stop thinking about anything else but Jake.
  • "It's okay," Jake says softly, his voice easing through my pain, wrapping me tightly in its warmth. "It's going to be fine."
  • Of course, it's going to be fine, for the thought won't stop coming to my mind.
  • My crush, stand up for me.
