Chapter 6 The Hunt

  • The second rule of hunting, a principle Evana had learned from her father's meticulous teachings, was to know one's prey inside and out – their habits, their fears, their strengths, and their weaknesses. It was a maxim that had served her well in the past, but now, as she sat watching the silhouettes of students weave in and out of the towering academy building, she couldn't help but wonder if she had misjudged her quarry entirely.
  • Her thoughts darkened with every second.
  • Evana had envisioned the moment she found the offspring of D'Aragon. She had thought of what feelings would fill her belly. Triumph? Glee? Anger? She had been sure it would be anger, but standing beside Calista at that very moment, the sinking feeling in her belly was defined not as anger.
