Chapter 33 The Man Magnus Used To Be
- Thirty-one years ago, Magnus Voss was a different man. He was younger, sure, but more than that he was happy. Back then, he was the Beta to a decent Alpha, and he was married to a woman he loved more than he ever thought possible. He’d been foolish enough to think the life he’d built was permanent.
- Her name was Sarah. She was human, but that didn’t matter to him back then—not the way it seemed to matter to everyone else. His mate bond had clicked the second he saw her working behind the counter of a little bookshop three towns over from the Shadowmoon border. In the eleven years they were together, he never once regretted a single day of loving her.
- He still thought about her constantly, though he’d spent three decades training himself to keep it off his face. He thought about her especially on nights like this, alone in the small house he kept on the edge of a territory that didn’t really belong to anyone, reading reports from a man he’d paid to watch a hospital—the same hospital he’d once been convinced couldn't be allowed to save her, all those years ago, until she became the precedent to change the laws surrounding it.
