Chapter 10 Soon Isn't a Timeline

• "Soon" meant nothing.
• Three days passed. Every time Emily looked for Kael, he had an excuse. He was in surgery, or he was paged away. By the third day, she was sure he was simply avoiding her. It wasn't subtle, which was surprising for a man so precise in every other part of his life.
• On the fourth day, she caught him in the stairwell between the third and fourth floors. Most people used the elevator, so it was a quiet spot. Emily had been using it for two days, betting that Kael would eventually run out of hiding places.
