Chapter 173 Everything I Did was for You

  • “From now on, you better pray that Caitlin returns home safely. Or else…” He did not continue, but his words were enough to shake Madam Ruby to the core.
  • “Why? She is only a woman! Besides, I thought you didn’t love her 5 years ago? She was the one who entangled you. She wasn’t even the one you loved, was she? Now you’ve fallen for her just because she got plastic surgery and looks better than before? This so-called love is shallow!” cried Madam Ruby resentfully.
  • Max turned to face her and said in a clear voice, “I didn’t know what love was 5 years ago, and I thought I didn’t love her then. But do you know how happy I was when I found out that she was pregnant with my child? And did you know I almost died with her in that fire? For some, it’s love at first sight, but there’s a sort of love that blossoms over time. I’m not hard-hearted. She waited up for me all those nights that I came home late; she took care of me when I got drunk. I don’t know at what point I started to become fond of her following me around, to enjoy looking at her. Whenever I looked at her, I felt peaceful inside, and I felt that my life was blissful. But that fire 5 years ago took her away from me. I knew there was something suspicious about that incident, but I couldn’t find out what it was—I kept feeling that there was someone preventing me from finding out, but I didn’t have a clue who it was. I think I might have died if it wasn’t for the fact that I needed to find out the truth. But I never imagined that the person behind all this was you! Maybe you had something to do with that fire too? 5 years ago, you treated her so kindly that I thought you must have liked her, but why are you so cruel now? Why?
