• On arriving home, it was already past ten and I let out a curse as I shut the door behind me, looking through the sitting room as I walked past it and finding it empty. I also made sure to stop by Sofia’s arts room, and on finding that empty, I knew I’d definitely find her in our bedroom.
• As I climbed up the stairs, I wondered if she had already fallen asleep. On pushing the door open, I was greeted with a sight that filled my chest with so much pain.
