• The front gates of her father’s mansion creaked open slowly, revealing a sight that Kayla hadn’t expected to see. The once old mansion—its walls chipped and its garden overgrown, because nobody was tending to it—now stood immaculate. The freshly painted exterior gleamed so beautifully, and the hedges were perfectly trimmed. Her breath caught in her throat as she stares in disbelief the massive changes.
• Kayla dragged her suitcase along the tarred path, her mind spinning. What was happening? Where had this sudden wealth come from? She couldn’t reconcile this polished image with the struggling man who had been drowning in debt the last time she saw him.
