Chapter 5 Males First, Females Last
- I walked back into the main hall and they all gave me suspicious looks, which I ignored.
- "Where's Adrian?" Carmen was the first to ask, as he looked around.
- I shrugged. "He's picked one of the females and gone inside," I said.
- "Eww," They all chorused.
- Rhea gave me a glance. "Yeah?" She asked through our mind link.
- "I tied him up." I simply said, and she chuckled.
- "You're so badass!" She complimented.
- A grand opening suddenly diverted our attention and everyone in the hall turned as Alpha Reylis came out, his Luna by his right hand as they approached the stage.
- Everyone clapped as the band started playing the violin to welcome them.
- Alpha Reylis placed a light kiss on his mate's lips and I saw Reynolds cringe from the corner of my eyes.
- Alpha Reylis climbed up the stage while Luna Mabel walked to the table where other Alpha Reylis' high-ranked wolf mates sat.
- Alpha Reylis put on a smile, and a warrior blew a whistle, and the noises and chatters died down immediately.
- "Firstly, I'm really grateful to have all of you wonderful people here at my son's pre-coronation party..." He began.
- "In three days, I'll be stepping down, and my son... Alpha prince Reynolds!.." Screams erupted from almost every female wolf present in the hall immediately.
- Kayla, Rhea, and I glanced at each other, and we shook our heads.
- "Embarrassing.." Kayla commented, our discussion now drowning Alpha Reylis's horribly composed speech.
- Whoever wrote that speech sure did him bad, and he looked like a fool with no knowledge of how to speak or read.
- But of course, everyone in here was brain-dead anyway, so they all listened attentively and nod their heads in agreement like he was making sense.
- I slowly shook my head. The future of ShadowFang Pack would be a disaster if we continued like this.
- I drowned out the rest of his speech and soon he was done. Everyone clapped as he slowly descended the stage. He sat where his high-ranked wolves were. His Beta- my dad, Gamma- Adrian's dad, Delta- Rhea's dad.
- "We shall all proceed in an orderly manner to the main dining room, where food and drinks are all served in abundance," Luna Mabel announced, and everyone cheered.
- Serene rolled her eyes as she groomed her fur. "What?" I ask. "She sounded stupid." She said, and I looked at Luna Mabel, who was dressed too young for her age. She's putting on high heels and a short dress that barely reaches her thighs.
- How did her mate approve of this? And what lesson was she teaching to the younger female werewolves? I scoffed at my thoughts.
- Who was I kidding? She couldn't give two shits about any female wolves. She was just like her husband. Misogynistic as fuck.
- Since our pack was the biggest in Shadow Fang and we were the one hosting, we were the first to move down the dining hall. In this order, the Alpha and his high-ranked wolves and their mates, followed by their pups- the male ones first, then we, the females.
- Kayla, Rhea, and I walked hand in hand inside the hall. I didn't like physical contact, but Rhea wasn't one to listen to give you space so I just gave in.
- We settled on a table closer to the Alpha and his Beta, Gamma, and Delta since we were the first pack to walk in.
- Soon, other Alphas from other packs followed in, in the same order. I looked around. The person I was expecting to be here, wasn't.
- "Does anyone know if the Royal Alpha King will be here today, or on the coronation day?" I asked through the mind link.
- Reynolds scoffed. " He couldn't give two shits about our pack. Despite being the biggest, he doesn't care about us. He would rather attend the smallest pack's event than ours." He said.
- We all knew why - maybe they didn't, but I do. It was because of my father. But things have changed now, my father was no longer the alpha. Moreover, I doubt he would miss a chance to mock my father about his demotion.
- And I was right because right away, we heard the royal trumpet, and everyone got up on their feet, our heads bowed down.
- The dining room hall door opened and we heard heavy footsteps as the Alpha King and his members walked in.
- Alpha Reylis was the first to raise his head and then we all followed.
- "Welcome, my Alpha King," He said with a bow. We all watch.
- Alpha King Hayden barely acknowledged him, his heavy gaze landing on my father, whose gaze was straight and forward and did not waver either.
- A smirk appeared on Alpha King Hayden's lips. He crossed his arms. "How are you enjoying your new post, Beta Braden" He said, a hint of mockery laced his tone as he laid emphasis on the word 'Beta'
- "Very much well, Alpha king," My father replied; he couldn't be bothered.
- When I heard of the demotion, I had cried myself to sleep for days. I was the cause of it. The ridicule, the betrayal, the shame, it was all my fault, and I hated myself for it.
- But my dad had picked me up in his arms and said "I never for once, and even till now, regret ever training you for this. And if at all, I'm ashamed I failed as your father" He had said to me.
- My hands folded into a fist, my brows twitching. I hated Alpha King Hayden with everything in me.
- "It's not time yet, remember?" Rhea noticed me fuming and said to me, through our mind-link.
- I heaved in a deep breath, calming myself down.
- "Yes, it's not" I replied to her.
- Alpha Reylis chuckles awkwardly. "I didn't know you would come, my Alpha king," He said, ass-licking him, just like he liked.
- Alpha King Hayden finally acknowledged him. "Of course, I couldn't miss it for the world.." His eyes moved quickly through the room and landed on Reynolds.
- "That's him right? Your pup?" He asked, and Alpha Reylis nodded. "Yes, it is." Alpha King Hayden nodded thoughtfully before his heavy gaze landed on mine, and his jaw tightened as he stared at me with hatred.
- I smirked slowly, and he caught it. Great, cause I wanted him to.
- And I said with my eyes. Watch your back, Hayden.
