Chapter 2 Demotion- From Alpha To Beta
- There were now three days left until Reynold's coronation day. Most Alphas were now arriving. Kayla and I bowed as we welcomed them in, standing at the entrance.
- Alpha Reylis had given us the task to do so. Kayla was his daughter and Reynolds's sister, and he had put both of us at the frontline to welcome the Alphas as they walked into the pack house.
- If this didn't prove how little females were in his eyes, I wonder what will. We weren't just any females; Kayla was his daughter, and I was his Beta's daughter, but he couldn't care less. It doesn't matter what rank your family is, you're all slaves.
- Some Alpha gave me glares and sneers as they walked past me. Most of them now hated my dad for the 'unforgivable act' he did. Such being trying to make his daughter lead the pack.
- Some of them didn't even bother to hide the hate they now had for our pack but only came to honor Alpha Reylis, who had been nice to them when he was still beta and after he became Alpha - that was three years ago.
- He's led this pack for three years now and it sure as hell has been disastrous.
- "I hate them" Kayla sneered through our mind-link.
- "Father included," She muttered.
- "Good thing you do," I said to no one by myself.
- I couldn't trust her, yet. Moreover, Alpha Reylis was still her father, I couldn't risk her running her mouth to him or Reynolds about my plans.
- Rianna suddenly stopped before us, swaying her hair majestically. Kayla and I slowly bowed. She was the Alpha of our second biggest pack's daughter, and she was just as egotistical as her father.
- He was one of the fastest packs- in fact, the first to cut alliance with our pack after the rumors broke out of my father's deeds. He only reviewed the alliance back after Alpha Reylis became the alpha.
- "Of course, they allow the traitor's daughter to be here." She sneered again. A smirk appeared on my face, and I crossed my arms.
- "And yet, here you are. Threatened by my presence." I didn't hold back. By the way, no one would care anyway. We were both females, we didn't matter to anyone.
- Her brows rose sharply, her nostrils flaring. "How dare you!" She yelled and tried to slap me but I held her hand, pushing her off.
- "Don't try me, Rianna. I will break every bone in your body, and I won't even flinch," I said as she almost tripped to the floor. Her Omegas held her up immediately.
- "I'll make sure you pay," She spat before barging in, and I saw her going to her father, who only brushed her off. Kayla and I shared a laugh.
- "How long do we have to stay here?" Kayla asked through our mind-link as we kept bowing to the guests that kept trooping in.
- By now, the main floor of the pack house was slowly becoming full.
- But we have enough floors and buildings where they can all stay, so I doubt it will be any problem.
- "For as long as they keep coming" Adrian suddenly said, walking over to us. My brows raised. Adrian was the future gamma, and he was a friend of Reynolds- best friend. He was a friend of mine. 'Was' because he cut me off immediately after the rumors broke out.
- "How dare you do this to Reynolds. He is our best friend. He's supposed to lead this pack after his father claims the throne, and you knew that. But you and your traitor- of- a father had other plans." He spat at me.
- Reynolds had defended me, claiming I had no hand in it, and it was all just my father. But I cut him off and told him I was very much aware of it and didn't see anything wrong with it.
- Adrian had looked at me with disdain. "You've always been proud, but I didn't know you were stupid enough to think you could lead this pack and even go as far as trying to steal Reynolds' title."
- I scoffed. Steal? It is my title. Reynolds was the one stealing what was mine, and definitely not otherwise. But I had said nothing and only walked away.
- Reynolds came after me later, telling me to ignore our other best friend and that he would come around. He never did, and to date, he hated me.
- Adrian walked further to us. "When I become Reynolds' beta, I will ensure you two do more than just bowing to visitors.. " He smirked and his gaze landed on me.
- He brought his hands forward and I moved back. I could snap his hands right here and right now. But I'm not trying to attract attention. I shouldn't, till the day Reynolds crowns me as his Beta, and till the day I challenge Reynolds.
- No one should know how powerful I or my wolf was.
- Everyone thought Adrian would become the beta after my dad stepped down.
- No one had plans to make me the Beta of this Pack because it didn't matter if my dad was now the Beta and I was next in line for succession; I was still a female.
- And the 'females shouldn't lead' rule still stands.
- But Reynolds had other plans. I hadn't asked him for it. I will never stoop low to ask my enemy for a favor, but Reynolds liked me, he's had a crush on me since we were kids.
- And it was safe to say I never felt the same way, or else it would eat me inside out to ever think I once liked someone whose father would end up betraying mine.
- "I'll make you Beta, you don't have to worry. I'll also train you to make you strong and prove to you that you're strong enough to lead as my Beta." Reynolds had said to me, and he had been fulfilling his promises.
- He's been training me secretly, and I had to pretend I couldn't fight. I had to hold myself and my wolf down from snapping his head down his body whenever our body came in contact on the field.
- "You're a disgrace to this pack, you and your offspring" The words echoed in my ears every now and then, as the Pack members rained my father with curses.
- All this because he wanted his daughter to lead..
