  • She was sure she’d carved a rut in the five-foot area she paced around while she watched for Noah to return. Gage was working on the gate behind her and would try every few minutes to engage her in conversation, but she couldn’t think past the fact that Noah was out there still. If she knew it was one coyote, she might feel better, but she thought maybe they traveled in packs or whatever they were called. He could be out there in trouble fighting a whole group of animals.
  • Gage paused and looked down at her. “He’s on the way back.”
  • She tilted her head and gave him a look, not even sure how he’d know this.
