Chapter 21

• Noah came up to run beside her and her cat had no desire to try to outrun him, but that didn’t mean she was going to stay beside him either, she decided. It shocked her how easy it was to turn her entire body and go in another direction, and how she was able to navigate through the trees without fear of hitting one of them.
• Lifting her chin, she scented around her again, there were more cats around her. She put on the brakes and came to an abrupt stop, sliding a few feet on the mucky ground. Her sides were heaving, but she still inhaled again, there was something not natural out here in the trees. Something man-made, she thought.
• Crouching low, she turned her head and a sound she didn’t know how she made came out of her throat. Her cat had conveyed something to Noah and a big white cat, she thought briefly might be Blair. They both lifted their heads and checked the scents around them. When both turned to look at her. They didn’t look concerned. Didn’t they smell it?
