Chapter 7
- Allison Point of View.
- During our time spent waiting in line, Linsey and I have been carrying on a conversation with one another. She describes her family to me, including her four brothers and the house they grew up in. I give her an abridged version of my history, which leaves out the majority of the moving around that I have done over the years, as well as the fact that I am a werewolf.
- I quickly change the subject to something less personal, and we soon start talking about our favorite bands. She likes the same kind of music that I do—indie guitar bands.
- We are talking so much that I don't notice the handsome man with dark hair and an expensive suit walk in. Even I haven't been spotted by him. He is too busy speaking to the women that are accompanying him. The next thing I know, his shoulder is slamming into my face. I was completely unprepared for it. I feel like I'm losing my balance, so I grab hold of his expensive shirt to keep myself from falling. Suddenly, the shirt starts to rip, and I find myself falling to the ground.
- I fall backwards onto the hard floor, striking the top of my head against the surface. The fragment of the man's shirt that I was able to rip off still remains in my hand, and I am still clinging to it tightly. Disbelief has taken hold of me. Linsey moves toward me to help, but the handsome man who knocked me down is standing in her way.
- He makes himself lower so that he can assist me in standing up. He looked like he was sorry. He looks at me, and his dark brown eyes make me feel like I could get lost in them. The smell of sandalwood and pine needles comes from him. I've figured out that he is a werewolf.
- He takes in my smell. "Wolf," he says in a whisper that I am the only one who can hear. He looks into my eyes and takes another deep breath, making his nose flare. He says "rogue" with disgust.
- I can feel myself getting smaller. I can hear my wolf howling in pain and trouble in my head. What's the matter with her? I push away from him to try to stand up, but I'm still not sure where I am.
- He grabs my arm, and the sensation of his touch sends sparks flying through my body. He snorts. I make an effort to free myself from his grasp, but he firmly holds me in place and stares intently into my eyes. "I won't hurt you," he said. Since I knocked you down, the least I can do is get you back up." He helps me stand up, then gives me one last look and walks away.
- I cannot believe what I am hearing. What happened? Why did I feel the way I did when he touched me? A gentleman who, from all appearances, despises rogues.
- "Well, that was rude. He didn't even apologize for knocking you down or ask how you were." Linsey answered back.
- "No, he didn't, but it's okay, nothing bad happened. I'm fine." I said this with a smile.
- She looks at my head and says, "Really?" "You hit the ground with a hell of a bang, and your face is going to be bruised."
- I tell her, "Yeah, I am, but I'm fine." She doesn't know how fortunate I was. It was a wolf pack. I could have been in a lot more trouble. He could have said it was my fault I tore his shirt and got in his way.
- It's not impossible that he will. It's possible that the guy didn't want to cause a commotion in front of all of these humans, but he could come back to exact his revenge. I had no choice but to let Daniella know about this. Find out if she is familiar with him, and if so, seek her guidance.
- I have to wait in line for another half an hour before I can be registered as a new student. Along with my schedule, I am provided with an identification card. I say goodbye to Linsey and tell her I'll see her again soon. I had to find Daniella and let her know what was going on.
- I find her sitting on the bench in the middle of the square and reading a book, just as she said she would be.
- "Hey, that's me. I signed up."
- "That's good, but you don't seem very happy about it. What's wrong?"
- "There were no issues with registration. I became friends with a person I met in line.
- "That's awesome, but..."
- "I met a pack of wolves. He didn't watch where he was going and knocked me down. When I fell, I was able to rip his shirt."
- She was worried. "Did he make a scene?"
- "No, he wasn't hurt at all. He helped me get up, but when he left, he called me a "rogue" because he knew I was a werewolf. Do you think he'll come after me, and that he only kept his cool because we were around people?"
- "He could have been, but most of them wouldn't care. They would try to scare you, but they wouldn't attack you because that would upset the balance of power between pack wolves and loners.
- "What was he like?"
- "He has long, dark brown hair. He wasn't a student; he looked to be in his mid-twenties and was wearing an expensive suit. I tried to remember more details, but after I fell over, I was pretty confused. His eyes were brown. He was so big that even for a werewolf, he was big."
- "I don't know that guy. We don't usually see wolves around the university that aren't students."
- "Good, because the last thing I want to do on my first day is upset a pack of wolves."
- "No, you won't. Come on, I'll show you around the university."
- I'm happy to follow her. I feel better now that I know the wolf I ran into probably won't come after me. The day might not be so bad after all.
