- As I stepped out of the house, I didn’t even bother calling Derrick to drive me like I usually did. I wasn’t in the mood for company or small talk. I just wanted to clear my head and maybe see the only two people who seemed to bring me peace lately—my mother and Sophia. So, I got in the car and drove myself out, hands firm on the steering wheel, mind already racing ahead of me.
