Chapter 27 A Fresh Start

- I didn’t sleep. Even after I left Sophia’s room, I pulled the covers over her and walked away; my mind wouldn’t rest. I tossed and turned, replaying the night over and over again—the way she had cried alone, the way I had run like a coward, and the way I fucking failed her. Not long after, I was staring at the clock on the wall, and it was past five in the morning when I finally gave up trying to sleep.
- I got up, showered, and made my way down to the kitchen. I needed a distraction. For the first time in years, I found myself cooking.
