  • Sleep had been impossible that night, the darkness of my bedroom offering no peace, no reprieve from the thoughts clawing at the edges of my mind. It was an unfamiliar feeling, this distraction, this disturbance, and I hated it. It was irrational. Illogical. And yet, it persisted, lurking beneath the surface like a splinter embedded too deep to remove.
  • I turned onto my side, staring at the city skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows of my penthouse. The glass reflected a ghost of myself—a man who had everything, a man who needed nothing, yet somehow, for reasons beyond my comprehension, I couldn’t shake the image of a girl curled up on a cold pavement, lost and forgotten by the world.
